CrimeCraft to be distributed by THQ; sold exclusively at Best Buy

A few days ago, we reported that the upcoming FPS MMO CrimeCraft would ship to stores on August 25. Today we received word that the game from developer Vogster Entertainment has secured a distribution deal with THQ and will be sold exclusively at Best Buy stores and on the retailer's web site.

People who buy the game will get two free months of play time along with two exclusive in-game t-shirts from "acclaimed real-world fashion labels" along with a in-game backpack for their character. People who pre-order the game will also get in-game shoes from Ecko Unltd, access to the game's beta test and a three day head-start on the game's retail launch. Best Buy is even providing a virtual gift card in the game that can be used for discounts for other virtual items. Pre-orders will begin online on May 31 and in stores on June 7.

CrimeCraft gets US release date of August 25

A few days ago, we reported that the FPS MMO CrimeCraft had entered into closed beta testing. Apparently the development team at Vogster Entertainment is so confident about how the closed beta is going that they have gone ahead and set a release date for the game.

According to a new press release we received today, CrimeCraft will ship to stores in the US on August 25. If you still want to sign up for the closed beta you can do so at the game's official web site. Vogster states that additional beta slots for CrimeCraft will be given out throughout this summer before its release.

CrimeCraft begins closed beta test

There's been quite a few announcements of MMO games going into open or closed beta test and now it looks like another such title is beginning to let outsiders play on their servers. Vogster Entertainment's FPS MMO CrimeCraft has quietly announced on their official forums that their closed beta servers are now open to anyone who has been invited to play in the beta test.

This urban-themed MMO (which we previewed at GDC last March) hasn't gotten a lot of press attention but the grim-and-gritty look combined with its use of Epic's Unreal Engine 3 makes the game look a lot better than some of its comtemporaies. We will get even more info on CrimeCraft when we get to see the game live at E3 in two weeks.

CrimeCraft videos introduces its big characters

CrimeCraft, an MMO currently in development Vogster Entertainment, lets players rise up in the ranks of the criminal underworld. To do so, players will have to do favors for contacts. These two videos introduce players to Gerome Mills (shown above) and Sasha Redden (shown after the jump). The developers talk about the backgrounds of each character and what roles they play in the game. CrimeCraft is currently accepting sign-ups for the beta. Visit the official website to apply.

New CrimeCraft screenshots show battles in the streets

Vogster Entertainment is trying to join the FPS free-to-play craze with their upcoming Unreal Engine 3 based title CrimeCraft. The developer-publisher has been sending out regular media updates to the press and we've added the latest screenshots they have released from the game in our growing gallery.

The game's official web site has also gotten a makeover with lots more info about CrimeCraft. The game will not only allow for a persistent FPS experience (leveling up, more weapons unlocks and the like) but also features crafting abilities. Yep, just like in a number of other more traditional MMO games CrimeCraft will allow you to make weapons and items. The game is due for release later this summer. In the meantime you can check a more detailed preview of CrimeCraft here at Big Download.

GDC 2009: CrimeCraft

If you're at all like me, then not only are you amazingly good looking and sharp as a tack, you're also getting kind of tired of fantasy-themed MMOs. You're looking for something grittier ... something modern ... something that doesn't involve magic or swords or orcs. I had a chance recently to check out Vogster Entertainment's CrimeCraft, and it's exactly those things and more.

CrimeCraft comes out of hiding with new screenshots

A while back, Epic Games announced that it had licensed its Unreal Engine 3 tech to a little known game developer called Vogster to create an urban MMO shooter called CrimeCraft. It's been over two years since that announcement but now Vogster has come out of hiding to reveal some details and the first screenshots from their game.

CrimeCraft has a little bit of Escape from New York in its premise as criminals are dumped into the fictional Sunrise City to fend for themselves. Players will be able to battle each other and AI enemies in multiplayer matches but their character is persistant in the game world and can add skills and trades by doing certain jobs. There's also a crafting system for weapons and items and even a black market to buy, sell and trade items. CrimeCraft is expected to launch sometime this spring or summer but there's no word yet on a beta sign-up.
