E3 08: Left 4 Dead to eventually get movie recording, playback

During an interview at E3, Valve's Doug Lombardi revealed that the company hopes to add a movie making function to Left 4 Dead at some point after the launch of the core game. He loosely described features that would allow players to record, edit, play back, and possibly share their virtual near-death experiences. Sadly, that functionality probably will not be available for a while; we didn't see it in our own hands-on experience with the game.

Lombardi also mentioned that Valve went to Microsoft, Yahoo!, and RealNetworks when it was first conceptualizing Steam, but was told by all that such a service would only exist "10, 15 years in the future." Of course, now Microsoft operates the separate and struggling Games for Windows Live service, which shares some features with Steam.

And yes, we know the above screenshot features the old, now-replaced Left 4 Dead characters. But how about a little nostalgia?

E3 08: Left 4 Dead videos reveal new player characters

Valve Software's Gabe Newell took the stage at EA's E3 press conference to present the cooperative horror game Left 4 Dead. We have the video of that presentation on the other side of the jump, but here are the Cliff's Notes.

All four current player character models will be replaced with the above-pictured folks. This was probably a good change; the old ones weren't very likable or varied. In addition to that bit of info, Newell talked about the game's AI director, which will adjust the gameplay to match players' playstyles, positions, and status.

He also said the game is coming out on November 4th, but that news ain't new. Anyway, the game seems to be coming along swimmingly. Be sure and check out the video after the break!

Diablo III: Co-op focus means no on-the-fly PK toggle, PvP to be included

When Diablo III was finally announced earlier this month, hardcore fans of the series were displeased by the level of color found in the gameplay footage for the sequel. Now, new comments made on the World of Warcraft forums by Blizzard poster Bashiok are expected to have naysayers up in arms once again.

In a post requesting on-the-fly PK options to be restored in Diablo III (where players could turn on others while dungeon crawling in Diablo rather than having to go into town in Diablo II to toggle the option) griefing hearts were crushed when it was confirmed the toggle isn't seeing a change.

"I'm sure that it was a feature that was right up some people's alleys, I won't deny there are some that would enjoy nothing more than to see others frustrated, but is that truly something that should be encouraged through design - if not directly opposed?" posted Bashiok.

However, PVP fans were teased when Bashiok noted
, "That doesn't mean that PvP won't have its own focus, but those are details and features we aren't yet discussing." Let's hope these options are agreeable to recent detractors, otherwise we might have another petition on our hands.

New Prince of Persia might have co-op multiplayer after all

Prince of Persia PR guy Chris Easton told website videogaming247 that Ubisoft might reconsider its earlier statement that Prince of Persia won't have co-op multiplayer. Admittedly, Easton didn't suggest that the game definitely will have co-op; he just said that it's being considered.

Speculation about a co-op mode when it was revealed that the will Prince have a companion named Elika who will travel and fight with him through much of the game. It's not a stretch to imagine that Elika could be taken over by a second player. On the other hand, the Prince had a female partner in The Sands of Time as well, and that game was single-player only.

New Flash game from Eyezmaze: Meet In

The GROW series of Flash games has got to be one of the most addictive, time-wasting series ever. Besides being terribly cute, they're also a testament to the creativity of one person, known only as 'On'. A new game from On is always an event to celebrate, and no less with his newest creation, Meet In.

This one's a little different than the other games on the Eyezmaze site. It's a single-player, cooperative (if you can get your mind around that one) escape-the-maze game. You have four screens, each of which has a character in it, stuck in a different part of the maze. By working together, all four can escape. It's fun, it's free, go check it out!
