Pirates invade in new Commander: Conquest of the Americas DLC pack

There's some scurvy characters around in the newly announced and released downloadable expansion pack for Commander: Conquest of the Americas. The DLC, titled Pirates Treasure Chest, is the second such pack for the historical strategy game from developer Nitro Games and publisher Paradox Interactive.

The DLC adds a new island to the game, Tortuga, where players can choose to hire pirate ships and go on quests to find treasure. Of course there's always the option to go in the other direction and hunt down pirate ships and take their booty from them. The DLC should be available via various download sites, including GamersGate, today for $4.99.

GoG.com's statement from management is coming tomorrow. It should be interesting to see if this is legit or just an excuse for a relaunch.

Conquest of the Americas trailer teaches the basics of trading

We'll always welcome trailers that detail gameplay systems with open arms, and the quiet title Commander: Conquest of the Americas gives us one. Granted, it's something we aren't really concerned with learning (trading) but it gives a good look at the in-game engine while showing a bit about the new colonization-oriented game. Granted, we're not that fond of the voice-over, but it's tolerable enough to get to the meat of the trailer. We also wish that the resolution was a little higher so that the interface was more readable, but there's only so much you can do with streaming internet trailers.

Developer Nitro Games and publisher Paradox Interactive have released a playable demo of Commander Conquest of the Americas. The full version of the historical strategy-sim game is scheduled to be released by Paradox on July 30.

The demo will let players try out a portion of the game which is all about the colonization of the "New World" in the 16th century. Players control one of the European nations who are trying to establish colonies in the Americas and keep them thriving and growing through trade from the colonies to the home country and also through military means via naval warfare.

This Week in PC Games: July 26-August 1

This week the PC game community gets its biggest PC exclusive game release since perhaps World of Warcraft's launch way back in November 2004. Believe it or not there are also other PC games due out this week including the free public launch of the racing MMO game Need For Speed World which launched for paying customers last week.

StarCraft 2 Wings of Liberty: Blizzard's ground breaking 1998 sci-fi RTS game finally gets a sequel as the Terrans, Protoss and Zerg factions fight it out again. Expect a long single player campaign focusing on the Terrans along with multiplayer via Battle.net and an impressive mission editor.

Commander: Conquest of the Americas coming July 30

It looks like StarCraft II won't be the only PC game coming out next week. Paradox Interactive has just announced that the historical naval strategy game Commander: Conquest of the Americas has "gone gold" and will be released via download and through retail outlets on July 30.

Developed by Nitro Games (who previously released East India Company, also for Paradox Interactive) the game is set in the 16th century with players able to pick from one of seven European nations that are out to conquer the "New World" through trade and warfare. Players can establish colonies and grow their American empire and also take part in RTS-style naval battles. If you pre-order the game you get some extra content including "three extra ships, three new resources, seven new historical Commanders (one for each nation) and three new historical naval battles."

E3 2010: Paradox Interactive announces its E3 game titles

Hard to believe but we are just a month and a half away from the official start of E3 2010. With the dates of the show getting closer and closer, publishers are starting to announced just what games they will be showing at this year's expo. One of them is Paradox Interactive who will be bringing four upcoming titles to the event.

Among the games they will be showing is the 19th century historical strategy game Victoria 2, the strategy-sim title Commander: Conquest of the Americas, the RTS game Lionheart: Kings' Crusade and the simulation title Ship Simulator Extremes. Of course it stands to reason that the publisher might have some surprise games and announcements they are waiting to spring on us when E3 starts.
