Game publishers head to San Diego Comic-Con 2009

The San Diego Comic-Con is usually known as a place for comic book, movie and TV fans but more and more game publishers have been making stops at the annual summer event. And why not? Comic-Con now regularly gets over 120,000 attendees every year.

The 2009 edition, to be held in July 23-26 (with a preview night on July 22) will have a ton of game publishers exhibiting at the show including most of the major players. EA, Activision/Blizzard, THQ, NCsoft, Capcom, LucasArts, Ubisoft, Konami, 2K Games and many more are listed on the event's site as attending. If you want to go, well, there's a problem. All of Comic-Con's tickets have already sold out. However there are rumors that they will sell a limited amount of tickets online a couple of weeks before the show begins so keep on the lookout.

First Looks at the Mirror's Edge Comic

Didn't get a chance to attend the San Diego Comic-Con, or happened to completely overlook the EA booth? Worry not, Spencer over at Siliconera did it all for you, and waited on the short line to pick up the Mirror's Edge mini comic. He was even kind enough to scan in the seven page comic to share with all.

Published by Wildstorm, a division of DC comics, this early look shows the game's main character, Faith, running across rooftops as a message courier. It doesn't reveal any more than the trailers already do, but it still helps to build anticipation for the game. The full launch of the comic is scheduled to coincide with the game's release. So check out Siliconera for the read!

Joystiq's Comic-Con costume gallery has a few game creations

Our parent site Joystiq is in the middle of the San Diego Comic-Con (today is the final day of the massive pop culture show) and our team has been busy taking pictures of tons of people who show up in full costume and then proceed to wander around the halls of the convention center.

As usual there are a lot of comic-book based costumes at the show but there are a few game related get-ups as well, such as the Dead Space outfit you can see to your right. While some of the costumes look great you do have to wonder about how comfortable they can get after a few days of walking around a packed event like Comic-Con. Regardless, check out the Joystiq gallery to see even more wild get-ups.

Will Wright to show new Spore application at Comic-Con

We have already mentioned that Will Wright will be making his first appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con next week to promote their upcoming evolution sim Spore. Now it looks like he will be doing more than just showing off the long anticipated game. He will also be demoing a new Spore related application that actually does related to comic books.

According to a just updated listing on the official Comic-Con web site. Wright will not only demo Spore but also show off the MashON Spore Comic Book Creator. This newly revealed application will allow people to make a comic book story starring your custom Spore creature. There's no word yet on if this will be a separate application or one that will be included with the game.
