This demo for Codename: Panzers Cold War gives players a chance to try out some of the single player gameplay from this historically themed real-time strategy game.

"During the Cold War conflict, the status quo between the occupying Allied and Soviet forces rests on a knife edge, when an aircraft accident over Tempelhof Airport during the Berlin Blockade threatens to tip the scales towards full-blown conflict. The tragic collision of an American cargo plane with a Russian fighter costs not only the lives of both crews, but proves to be all the encouragement Stalin and his Red Army needs to wage bloody war against the NATO forces."

New Codename Panzers: Cold War screenshots revealed

Earlier this week, Atari announced it was picking up the publishing rights to Codename Panzers: Cold War, the latest game in the military RTS series. This week the publisher also sent out three new screenshots from the title giving us more of what we can expect from the game.

As we reported earlier this week, Codename Panzers: Cold War is an alternate history look at if the Soviet Union were to invade Europe during the 1950's at the height of the so-called "Cold War" between Communist and NATO forces. The game was being developed by Codename Panzers's creators Stormregion but that developer shut down earlier this year alongside its owners, German publisher 10acle. The game is being completed by the new studio InnoGlow, made up of former Stormregion team members.

Atari to publish Codename Panzers: Cold War

Atari has been picking up a number of games lately that have been tossed aside by other publishers. Earlier this fall they announced they would be publishing former Vivendi Games titles Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena and Ghostbusters. This morning they announced that they would be taking on another previously lost game, Codename Panzers: Cold War.

This latest game in the long running PC RTS series was to be developed by Stormregion and published by German-based 10tacle in 2008. However 10tacle went into bankrupcy this summer and Stormregion shut down with them. A new dev team named InnoGlow rose from the Stormregion ashes to complete the game and Atari will now ship it to stores in February 2009.

Unlike the previous Codename Panzers titles which were set in World War WII, Cold War takes place in the 1950s as the game projects an alternate history conflict between the Soviet Union and NATO forces in Europe

European publisher 10Tacle declares insolvency

It looks like a major European game publisher is about to shut down for good and it may take a long awaited military RTS game with it. A German language press release on the 10Tacle Studios web site has announced that the company has declared itself insolvent following recent financial problems.

The publisher had several games in development prior to this announcement and one of the, the historical RTS game Codename Panzers: Cold War, may be a casuality. The game is the latest in the successful Codename Panzers series of titles by developer Stormregion that were published in the US by CDV. 10Tacle purchased Stormregion in 2007 but according to posts on the official Stormregion message boards by an alledged team member, Codename Panzers Cold War went gold in May but " . . .chances are you will never see it published. 10tacle left our studio dead in the water - our office is now closed and we're out of business, plain and simple." Reportedly Stormregion had over 100 employees at the time of its shutdown.
