NCsoft trademarks City of Heroes 2 title

We are a bit surprised that it took NCsoft this long to do this but it apparently happened just a few days ago. The publisher has just registered its trademark for the title City of Heroes 2, indicating the publisher at least wants to keep its options open on making a full fledged sequel to their long running super hero MMO.

Of course, the game's current developer Paragon Studios has a lot of stuff on its plate already. The internal studio took over from City of Heroes' original dev team Cryptic Studios some time ago and are developing the game's second commercial expansion pack, City of Heroes Going Rogue, for release sometime later in 2010.

City of Heroes: Going Rogue trailer goes gun toting

City of Heroes players are now able to live out their John Woo movie fantasies with the the Dual Pistols power set, available now to customers that pre-order the Going Rogue expansion. This comes just in time for the Double XP and free reactivation weekend happening on March 4-7, so heroes and villains can get right to work building up those gun toting skills. As demonstrated by this trailer, the Dual Pistols are pretty slick, with moves that look inspired by movies like Wanted and Equilibrium. Demon Summoning is expected to become available in April, and we're hoping the release of Issue 17 will happen around the same time.

The City of Heroes: Going Rogue expansion officially releases in July. Players can pre-purchase from the official website.

City of Heroes: Going Rogue to be released in July

City of Heroes players may be getting a big content update for the game in April but today publisher NCsoft announced that the long awaited commercial expansion pack to the super hero MMO, Going Rogue, now has a July 2010 release date. The expansion pack, as we have reported on before, takes place in a parallel world called Praetoria where hero characters can become villains and vice versa. The beta test for the expansion will start this spring.

NCsoft has announced that beginning on March 2, City of Heroes players will be able to pre-order Going Rogue for $29.99. Those that do will get immediate access to a new Dual Pistols power set. They can also access a Demon Summoning power in April. NCsoft will also sell the City of Heroes Going Rogue Complete Collection for $39.99 for new players to the MMO. Those that purchase the collection will get access to exclusive in-game items including Alpha-Omega themed auras and costume sets, the Shadowy Presence power, and more.

City of Heroes: Going Rogue due in second quarter 2010

Last week's Hero Con has come and gone but the info revealed at the fan fest for City of Heroes has been pouring out of the MMO's official message boards. A lot of the info reveals developer Paragon Studios' plans for Going Rogue, the upcoming commercial expansion for the long running super hero MMO title.

The expansion, which will allow players to turn their hero characters into villains and vice verse, is currently due for release sometime in the second quarter (i. e. spring) of 2010, with a beta test to begin sometime earlier in 2010. The expansion will also include new power sets, new factions, and a optional graphical upgrade. You can check out the game's message boards for all of the info revealed at Hero Con.

City of Heroes Going Rogue closed beta invites for Hero Con attendees

NCsoft and Paragon Studios are ramping up for the annual Hero Con event where fans of the super hero MMO City of Heroes will get together with the game's dev team, learn more about upcoming plans and in general have more fun than fans of MMO titles are allowed to have under law. This week, NCsoft announced that all attendees of Hero Con will get a chance to receive a special item.

That item is an invite to the closed beta test for City of Heroes: Going Rogue, the upcoming commercial expansion to the game that was announced earlier this year. The expansion itself will be shown in a "sneak peak" panel at Hero Con for the first time in public. Tickets for the event are still being sold; it will be held at October 24-25 (with some pre-con activities on October 23) at the Doubletree Hotel in San Jose, California. By the way you have to physically attend the show to get your closed beta invite. That's because NCsoft wants you to sign an NDA on site before you get the beta invite.

New City of Heroes content update released

This apparently sneaked up on us (NCsoft usually sends over a press release) but a few days ago the latest content update for their super hero MMO City of Heroes was released. Titled Issue 15: Anniversary, the update adds five new missions each for Heroes and Villains. It also has new costume choices, new costume emotes, new character faces and new features and changes to the recently released Mission Architect tool.

NCsoft also announced that there will be a Double XP weekend coming up next month; specifically from July 31-August 4. Of course we are still waiting for more info on the upcoming new commercial expansion pack Going Rogue.

City of Heroes goes rogue in expansion trailer

NCsoft today announced the development of City of Heroes Going Rogue, a retail expansion for City of Heroes and City of Villains. The expansion explores the grey area between good and evil and will expand the City of Heroes world to include an alternate dimension, Praetoria, where evil versions of the game's signature characters reside. No further information about the expansion has been announced, but fans can check out the official website.

New City of Heroes commerical expansion, Going Rogue, revealed

NCsoft is preparing a major new commercial expansion for their five year old super hero MMO City of Heroes. News of the expansion, titled Going Rogue, was leaked out via an email blast that apparently was sent a tad too early. However, forum posts from the game's developer Paragon Studios have confirmed that Going Rogue is indeed a real and upcoming project.

Going Rogue will expand the game's territory to a new alternate universe with a city called Praetoria and like the classic Star Trek episode "Mirror Mirror" it depicts heroes in the normal City of Heroes universe as villains and vice-versa. An all new alignment system "explores the shades of gray that lie between Heroes and Villains" in the expansion. A teaser site for Going Rogue has already launched with a CGI trailer. There no word yet on a release date for this new expansion
