Child's Play completes 2009 fund raising drive with over $1.7 million

The holidays are over but there are a lot of kids out there who got a lot of gifts thanks to the Child's Play charity. The organization, started by the Penny Arcade gang, has announced that their 2009 holiday fund raising drive have brought in over $1.78 million in cash, games and other item to be donated to a number of children's hospitals around the world.

That number blows away the $1.4 record the charity raised during its 2008 drive. While the official drive is over Child's Play still accepts cash donations all year. You can also purchase a Child's Play t-shirt with all proceeds going to the charity.

Penny Arcade launches PATV; Child's Play 2009 raises $1.5 million

They began by just writing and drawing a game-oriented web comic strip but Penny Arcade has since grown into hosting a massive game expo, orgazising a children's hospital charity and even helping to develop games based on their strip. Now they have moved into their next venture with the launch of the PATV web site.

In short the site hosts original videos related to games. The first show is (surprise) Penny Arcade The Series with each episode following the two creators around as they do what they do. Other shows made by others are on the way. In fact the first one, Blamimations!, is live now.

In related news, The Child'sPlay web site has revealed that the 2009 donation drive has now exceeded $1.5 million in donations, a new record for the charity that helps children's hospitals around the world.

Child's Play 2009 drive breaks $1.3 million mark

As we enter the final days of the Christmas season, the game-oriented Child's Play charity has announced the latest numbers in their annual fund raising drive. At the moment their fund raising total stands at just over $1.3 million which means that it's likely that this year's fund drive to help a number of children's hospitals around the world will break the record $1.4 million that was raised in 2008.

One big reason for this year's numbers was the annual Child's Play auction which was held last week in Seattle. The charity's official web site said that over $200,000 was raised just from that single event.

Child's Play goes over the $1 million mark in 2009 fund raising drive

While the news has yet to be posted as of this writing on the official Child's Play web site, the organizers of the gaming-oriented charity have announced that they have already reached the $1 million mark in donations of cash, games and toys to over 70 children's hospitals worldwide.

Next week the charity's annual auction takes place in Seattle but if you though you still had a chance of getting a ticket, wait until next year. All of the tickets for the auction, which will sell off one-of-a-kind game items from a number of game developers, have been spoken for. At the moment Child's Play looks like it will surpass last year's $1.4 million record in donations.

Child's Play updates fund raising numbers

The annual fund and prize drive for the Child's Play is officially in full swing and so far the drive is well on its way to completing it's $1 million goal. On Friday the charity's official web site announced that they have gotten nearly $750,000 in cash, toys, games and other items for their many children's hospitals.

One huge part of that total came from the third annual Desert Bus For Hope marathon. That event brought in a whopping $132,000 for Child's Play this year. The charity's official auction is still in the wings and there are still a few tickets left for the December 8 event in Seattle.

Child's Play 2009 charity fund drive begins

As we enter the holiday season, Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity has begun its annual fund raising drive to help 70 children's hospitals around the world. Last year the charity had over $1.4 million in cash, toys, games and other items that were donated to the participating children's hospitals.

The drive has been in effect for just over a week but thanks to events held throughout the year the charity has already raised $250,000, which is a quarter of this year's goal of $1 million. In addition to individual donations, a number of events to raise money are being held all over the US and Canada. As usual the biggest event is the annual Child's Play Charity Dinner Auction where people can bid on truly one-of-a-kind items donated by the game industry. This year's auction is being held December 8 in Seattle and tickets are being sold now.
