Dark Void trailer fights dirty

In Dark Void, players will need to think fast on their feet and improvise fighting techniques, whether it's flying with a jet pack, climbing cliff faces, or just throwing enemies off ledges. Players will have a chance to put all these moves to work and more when the game releases on January 22, 2010.

Sorry PC gamers: No word on Resident Evil 5 DLC for us

Last week Capcom made some announcements concerning future downloadable content for their hit action game Resident Evil 5. The extra content will consist of two extra episodes for the game as well as new costumes and a new Mercenaries Reborn gameplay mode. There will also be a Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition that will ship in 2010 with the original game and all of the DLC in one package.

Sounds pretty awesome, right? However, the DLC and Gold Edition announcements were for the Xbox 360 and PS3 consoles. So what does that mean for the PC version that was just released last September? G4TV put that question to Capcom and got back the sobering response, "No plans for PC at this point." That doesn't entirely shut the door on the subject but at the moment it looks like PC owners of Resident Evil 5 might have to do without all those cool console extras.

Dark Void trailer takes a long hard look at The Watchers

In Dark Void, players are trapped in an alternate dimension after flying through the Bermuda Triangle. In this place, an alien race with a sinister plan to take over human civilization. As demonstrated by this trailer, the aliens come in many different varieties of looks and battle armor. Dark Void is scheduled to release in North America on January 19, 2010 and across Europe on January 22nd.

"Dark Void is an adrenaline-fueled blend of aerial and ground-pounding combat which centers on Will, a pilot who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle following a routine mission. Will wakes up to find himself in 'The Void,' an alternate world resembling a primitive earth where aliens with superior technology are planning to take over civilization. Together with a faction of humans who have disappeared into the Void, Will takes on the alien race using their own advanced technology including a high-powered jet pack to defeat them and keep order in the civilized world."

Brad Pitt to star in Dark Void movie? Maybe

Combine a upcoming game about a jetpack-flying hero with arguably the most well-known movie star on the planet and you might have yourself a good movie. Capcom certainly hopes so as it announces today that Brad Pitt's production company Plan B Entertainment has bought the movie rights to Dark Void, the upcoming third person action game from developer Airtight Games.

The press announcement states that the movie is being prepped for a "potential starring vehicle for Pitt". He's been known to delve into the sci-fi and fantasy genre before in movies like 12 Monkeys, Interview with the Vampire and (ugh) Meet Joe Black. No studio, writer or director have been announced yet for the Dark Void movie. In the meantime the game is due for release for the PC and other platforms on January 19, a few days later than the previously announced January 15 release date.

Dark Void dev diary makes sure its characters live up to the Capcom standard

Capcom games are generally known for having stylized and memorable characters. Naturally, the development team working on Dark Void wants to live up to that expectation by having fully fleshed out characters for players to enjoy and interact with, and in doing so will overcome the stereotype that American video game characters are two-dimensional. We'll soon find out how successful they are when Dark Void releases in 2010.

Capcom reveals latest financials; Street Fighter IV PC 50 percent off

It's "earnings season" which means the vast majority of publically traded companies reveal how they did financially in the last quarter. In Capcom's case, the situation is excellent as the Japanese publisher announced a whopping 58.4 percent increase in its profits in the first half of its fiscal year. Higher-than-expected sales of its games were the main reason although much of that sales increase came from its home country. Sales in the US were not as strong due to the lower-than-expected sales of Bionic Commando and the delay of Dark Void from a fall 2009 to a January 2010 game.

In related news, Capcom is selling the downloadable PC version of their hit fighting game Street Fighter IV for just $19.95 in their online store. That's 50 percent off its normal price. The sale price last through Thursday.

Last minute Internet game sales show up

We thought that we had gone over all of the weekend's Internet PC game sales but as usual a few more have popped up since then. So consider this new post a late heads-up.

Capcom to offer Tesla Roadster in Dark Void-themed giveaway

Remember that mysterious event that was supposed to happen yesterday in San Fransisco to promote Dark Void? Well it happened and that event turned out to be the introduction to a new contest to promote the upcoming action game from developer Airtight Games and publisher Capcom. The folks were taken to a nearby car dealership. But not just any car dealership. Its one where they sell the all-electric Tesla Roadster car.

And the contest? Capcom is giving away one of these puppies, valued at over $100,000, to anyone who enters their sweepstakes. Five first prizes get a chance to test drive the Roadster in Las Vegas during CES in January. The "link" between the car and the game is that Dark Void has famed "mad scientist" Nikola Tesla as a character in the game that your player character encounters. Capcom sent over some new screenshots from the game, some of which show Tesla. They also have a pretty funny commercial for the Tesla Roadster giveaway that you can see after the jump.

Capcom to hold "secret" Dark Void event on Monday in San Fransisco

So when is a secret event not so much of a secret anymore? When the company holding the event posts about it on its blog site. In any case, Capcom has done just that for a not-so-much-secret-anymore event to promote their first game of 2010, Dark Void.

The Capcom Unity site is inviting anyone to register for the event who is 21 year of age and over and will be able to make their afternoon and early evening free in San Fransisco. Now they are keeping exactly what's on the agenda to themselves for now, saying only that those who get selected will have to show up at a location on Monday at 2 pm. Then the invited will be picked up and driven to the final secret location for the event.

What will it be? Will folks get to fly a real jetpack like the one in the Airtight Games-developed Dark Void? Will there be wine, women and singing involved? If you get picked and are allowed to talk about the event after its held, let us know.
