Call of Duty Black Ops First Strike out for PC; new patch and double XP weekend

PC players of the hit first person shooter Call of Duty Black Ops got a triple amount of news to digest. The biggest is the long awaited release of the first downloadable map pack for the game via Steam, First Strike, which adds four new multiplayer maps and a new zombie co-op map to the Treyarch-developed game for $14.99.

The second bit of news is a new patch for the PC version. The patch notes go over what's included which includes "mproved stability for Zombies, Multiplayer, and Dedicated Servers". It also fixes a number of exploits in both multiplayer and zombie modes and adds a Dolly Cam editing mod in the game's Theater feature.

Finally PC gamers are now in a double XP weekend, allowing them to double the amount of experience points in Black Ops their player characters can generate in multiplayer modes.

New Call of Duty Black Ops First Strike screens include movie-style poster

Today developer Treyarch and publisher Activision released some new screenshots from First Strike, the upcoming map pack for its hit first person shooter Call of Duty Black Ops. Among the new screenshots that show off the five new maps for the game, the team threw in something kind of cool.

The folks at Treyarch apparently love the kind of "grindhouse" movie posters that Valve used to promote its various Left 4 Dead campaigns. So they came up with one of their own for the zombie-themed map in First Strike, Ascension. You can check out the full poster after the jump. The map pack is due out on February 1 for the Xbox 360 console and should be released for the PC version a month after that.
