The long wait is over, and gamers who own the PC version of Mass Effect can download the "Bring Down the Sky" content pack for free. Players must first register the CD key with the BioWare community site before the pack can be installed.

"Bring Down the Sky" brings an extra 90 minutes of gameplay to Mass Effect, the critically acclaimed sci-fi role-playing game, and introduces a new and deadly race called the Batarians. Mass Effect: Bring Down The Sky now available for free PC download

It's been over two months since the release of the PC version of Bioware's PC port of their acclaimed sci-fi RPG Mass Effect but today the development finally made good on its word by providing the Bring Down The Sky downloadable expansion for the PC port.

The expansion, which was released for the original Xbox 360 version of the game a while ago, adds a new 90 minute game adventure to the title. People who want to download the expansion must register their copy of Mass Effect online. Some may remember that when Mass Effect was first announced for the PC there was some concern on the game's use of the Internet to register their copy. The game's publisher Electronic Arts later pulled that requirement from the game, but kept it if you wanted tot download extra content like Bring Down the Sky

Mass Effect's PC incarnation has gone gold

Electronic Arts announced today that the PC version of BioWare's Sci-Fi RPG Mass Effect has gone gold. The game will reach store shelves in North America on May 28th. The European release date is June 6th.

The press release notes that customers who pre-order the game from EA's online store will get some free Dead Space merchandise -- "the first issue of the Dead Space comic book and a Dead Space poster while supplies last." It's probably a safe bet that the two sci-fi themed, third-person games appeal to a similar crowd.

Mass Effect, originally released on Microsoft's Xbox 360 console, will include some new features in its PC incarnation -- a revamped user interface, more customizable and powerful combat controls, and 90 minutes of additional storyline content available to 360 users only as a pay-to-play download, called Bring Down the Sky.

Time to Bring down the Sky!

Xbox 360 users were finally able to download "Bring Down the Sky" last month (for 400 MS points) -- some four months after the game initially dropped. Unless you've been living in a space cave, BDtS is the extra content for BioWare's huge hit, Mass Effect. Well, PC gamers won't have to wait that long, and they won't have to pay a dime for it.

When the PC version of this critically acclaimed sci-fi action RPG drops on May 28 computer gamers will be to download "Bring Down the Sky" immediately and for free. The downloadable content introduces a new race (the Batarians) and adds a whopping 90 minutes of extra gaming goodness.

Sometimes it pays (pardon the pun) to be a PC gamer.
