Get Geometry Wars Retro Evolved free with Blur pre-order on Steam

We are not sure why we missed this nice little game pre-order offer but you still have some time to take atvantage of it while you still can. As you may know next week sees the release of Blur, the new action-racing game from developer Bizarre Creations in their first game for their current owners Activision.

If you pre-order the game before its release on May 25 you get an extra game for free. It's the Windows version of Geometry Wars Retro Evolved, the highly addictive (and highly colorful) arcade shooter that was originally made as a mini-game for Bizarre Creations' Xbox title Project Gotham Racing 2. If you have never played it you may find it's more entertaining than most high priced AAA games.

Blur to have Facebook support

Linking social networking web site Facebook directly to games seems to be a growing trend. We've already reported that StarCraft II will have intergrated Facebook support and today publisher Activision has announced that next week's release of the arcade racing game Blur will also have in-game Facebook support.

Hitting the "Share" button in the Bizarre Creations-developed game will allow Blur players to share things like in-game screenshots, stats and more on their Facebook account. You can also issue racing challenges from the game to your Facebook friends. Activision had previously announced that Blur would also support in-game Twitter messages.

Blur to get DLC support after game launches

It seems the trend today is to offer downloadable extras for games on the day or soon after the game is released. Not so for Blur, though. The upcoming driving-action game from developer Bizarre Creations and publisher Activision is set for release on May 25. However it looks like there will be a bit of a wait before the game gets its first DLC release.

MTV Multiplayer reports that Bizarre's lead designer on Blur Ged Talbot admits, " it's always been a massive part of the strategy to support the game with DLC." However they may wait until after the game ships before starting work on such features, with Talbot saying, " . . . no one has worked on it yet."

Blur finally coming in second quarter 2010; multiplayer beta in March

During Activision Blizzard's financial conference call with investors, the publisher confirmed that it will finally release the long awaited racing game Blur sometime during the second quarter of 2010 (April-June). The Bizzare Creations-developed game was supposed to have been released last November but the publisher pulled the game from that release date at the last minute and since then has not mentioned the game much since then.

It was also revealed that the game will be the subject of a multiplayer beta test in March which should give folks a chance to test out the game's mix of racing and action via power-ups. There's no word yet if the PC port of the game will get access to the multiplayer beta
