Review: Dead Rising 2

Dead Rising was an Xbox 360-exclusive title that aimed to capture the hearts of zombie fans everywhere. It did just that, and despite some major flaws, it was a surprisingly solid game with plenty of replayability. Now it's time for the sequel, and things have changed. New protagonist, new location, new story, and new development team have guaranteed that Dead Rising 2 will be different. Only it's not so much different, but rather an improvement. There's a sense of deja vu all throughout Blue Castle's endeavors to provide Capcom with a worthy addition to the franchise, and funnily enough, it ended up as the better game out of the two. Blue Castle has learned from the mistakes Capcom made, and while Dead Rising 2 certainly has issues, they are far less notable and important issues than the first game's problems.

Dead Rising 2 DLC coming to the PC version; no dates announced

Dead Rising 2 is one of the few Capcom-published titles to be released for the PC alongside its console counterparts. Now comes word that the zombie action game will be getting some paid downloadable content packs for the next several weeks for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. Eurogamer reports that the DLC packs will also be released for the PC version but there's no word on any release dates.

Each DLC pack will allow gamers to dress up the game's hero character Chuck in a variety of outfits along with new weapons and even some boosts to Chuck's skills. There are four DLC packs that have been announced and you can check out the details on each of them after the jump:

Dead Rising 2 trailer goes through tons of duct tape to get creative

We're incredibly pumped for Dead Rising 2, and this trailer only gets us more excited. Everyone loves some zombie slaughter, after all, and being able to create your own weapons just adds icing to the cake. Chuck Greene's fight to save his daughter hits shelves next Tuesday, so there's still about a week to go before the killing can begin. If you want to satiate your hunger for carnage, this trailer will definitely tide you over until the 28th. There's not really much else we can say.

Dead Rising 2 developer Blue Castle Games bought by Capcom

The development studio behind Capcom's upcoming zombie action sequel Dead Rising 2 is now fully in Capcom's hands. Reporting from the Tokyo Game Show our sister site Joystiq reports that Vancouver-based Blue Castle Games has now been acquired by Capcom. Financial specifics are not yet known.

Dead Rising 2 is due out for the PC and other platforms on September 28 so we should know very soon if this business deal will be worth it for Capcom. VG247.com also reports that the name of the developer will also change as a result of this acquisition. It will now be known as Capcom Games Studio Vancouver. It's not the most original name but that's what you get when a studio gets bought by a major publisher.

Dead Rising 2 PAX 2010 fan event revealed

With PAX Prime 2010 now completely sold out of tickets, publishers that are attending the annual event in Seattle this weekend are announcing their special fan events. Capcom has something unusual it has planned its PAX Prime fan event designed to promote the upcoming zombie action game Dead Rising 2.

As you can see from the image, Capcom is promoting a special "sale" at Green's Hardware on Friday, September 3 at a location a few blocks away from PAX Prime's convention center. PAX Prime attendees have to head to the Capcom booth to get their invites which come in the form of Green's Hardware newspaper ad flyers. We suspect there will be some playable builds of Dead Rising 2 at the event but what else is going on. Will you really be able to get good deals on a box of nails or even a handgun? Stay tuned.

Dead Rising 2 now confirmed for PC release September 28

For a little while it looked like the PC port of Dead Rising 2 might not be released at the same time as the console versions of Capcom's upcoming zombie action game sequel. However it now looks like the PC version will in fact be released day-and-date with the console port. Capcom's PR rep has now told Big Download that Dead Rising 2 for the PC will in fact be released on September 28.

Capcom does have a bit of a history releasing PC ports of its games well after the console versions. Indeed the PC port of Lost Planet 2 is due out in mid-October, several months after the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions came out.

Dead Rising 2 PC game release date now set for "Fall"

Capcom didn't release the original Dead Rising game for the PC platform but the upcoming sequel, Dead Rising 2, was announced from the get-go as coming for the PC via developer Blue Castle Games. However it now looks like the release date for the PC version is somewhat up in the air.

The game is due on the Xbox 360 and PS3 platforms on September 28. However we noticed that the PC port is not available for pre-orders, either in retail form or via digital download. When we contacted Capcom about this, we were told by the publisher's PR rep that it has yet to announce an official release date for the PC version of Dead Rising 2 other than "Fall". Hopefully Capcom will be letting us know of a more specific release date for the PC port in the near future.

Dead Rising 2 delayed one month until September 28

If you have been waiting to kill the undead horde in tons of different ways in Dead Rising 2, you will have to wait a little longer to get your zombie killing craving going on. According to VG247.com, the sequel to publisher Capcom's action game has had its released date pushed back a month.

Originally scheduled for an August 31 release, the game from developer Blue Castle Games is now set for release on September 28 in the US. The European release of the game has also been pushed back from September 3 to October 1. No reason for the delay was offered.

Dead Rising 2 to feature in-game Playboy content

A few months ago it was announced that Mafia II would feature covers of classic Playboy magazine covers in the game. It now looks like the classic men's magazine is making a bigger push in games with the announcement that Playboy content will be featured in the upcoming zombie action game Dead Rising 2.

Not only will players see billboards and ads with Playboy imagery, the player character Chuck Greene will be able to fight off the zombie horde with "a unique and special upgrade" by finding in-game Playboy magazines. The Blue Castle Games-Capcom title will give us some bunny love when its released for the PC and other platforms on August 31.

Dead Rising 2 to include co-op mode

While the first Dead Rising game never made it to the PC, we were very happy that Capcom decided to bring the sequel to their acclaimed zombie action game to our platform. Today the publisher revealed that Dead Rising 2 will be getting a version of the ever popular co-op mode.

Yep, that means you can play the full game with a good buddy and apparently the two of you can even share a brewski together. You and your pal can team up to hit, maim, shoot, chop and slice the hordes of the Romero slow moving-style zombies in the game. Will PC players check out this different take on the genre in the wake of the Left 4 Dead series? We will fine out when the game is released on August 31.
