Worldshift finally coming to the US in November

Last year, developer Black Sea Studios released the sci-fi themed RTS game Worldshift in Europe via Playlogic. However the game never made it to US shores. Now publisher Got Game Entertainment has announced they will finally bring Worldshift to the US in November.

The game is set thousands of years after an alien object nearly wipes out all humans on Earth. The game's three factions (Humans, Tribes, and the alien-based Cult) are now fighting for control of the planet. Unlike most RTS games which have factions upgrade their forces via tech trees, Worldshift has factions discover items in the game world and use them to upgrade their units. You can check out a playable demo of Worldshift right here at Big Download.

Crytek acquires Black Sea Studios

In the latest move of games industry acquisition, Crytek GmbH, developer of Crysis and the CryEngine, have announced their acquisition of Bulgaria-based Black Sea Studios. The acquisition will see the studio renamed Crytek Black Sea, and the team will remain based in Bulgaria.

"We think the acquisition of Black Sea Studios is a great opportunity to continue our strategic growth and expansion. Black Sea Studios already has a very qualified and experienced development team in place and will be continually expanded in capacity to join our tradition of producing highly innovative and creative games which Crytek is known for," said Avni Yerli, Managing Director of Crytek.

"Joining the Crytek family was a logical step for us as we think it is a perfect match. We are confident that our team has the creativity and passion to further contribute in creating innovative and enjoyable games. We are fascinated about this opportunity and we are looking forward to work in this new exciting environment as Crytek Black Sea." said Vesselin Handjiev, Managing Director of Black Sea Studios, now Crytek Black Sea.

Worldshift demo out in the wild

Black Sea Studios have been busy developing their latest title, a sci-fi RTS game called Worldshift. Today the Bulgaria-based developer released a public demo of the game for everyone to play (a limited multiplayer beta had previously been released) with a sample of what the full game will be like.

The demo contains the first two cooperative missions from the self described "cyber-fantasy" title along with support for playable 1v1 matches. The 660 MB demo should provided players with a good idea of what the final version will be like. Worldshift is scheduled to be released on May 6 in Europe but at the moment there's no word on a US release for the game.
