Alter Ego coming to US on August 1

Point-and-click adventure games maybe a niche market in the PC game industry nowadays but they still have a vocal fan following. Today publisher Viva Media announced they will be the US publisher for the latest such game Alter Ego, from Czech Republic developer Future Games.

The game itself is a horror-themed mystery game and will have you playing two characters in late 19th century England where your player characters (a thief and a police officer) have to solve a series of murders in a small town. The US version of Alter Ego is scheduled to ship to stores on August 1.

Jagged Alliance 3 gets new publisher

On Monday we reported that Kalypso Media had taken over the publishing duties of Disciples 3 from its former publisher Strategy First. Today another Strategy First owned game, Jagged Alliance 3, also has a new owner in BitComposer Games. Indeed BitComposer claims they now own the full Jagged Alliance IP aside from a social networking-based game that's currently under development at Strategy First. Financial terms were not disclosed

BitComposer claims they are aiming for a 2011 release date for Jagged Alliance 3, a game that's been in development off and on for the past several years with a number of developers. The Jagged Alliance series is a turn-based strategy game with modern day mercenaries who complete missions and take down enemies such as military dictators. BitComposer says that for Jagged Alliance 3 they want to "preserve the popular basic concept of the previous versions and place it in a contemporary setting."

More info on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Prypiat's US release date

Developer GSC Game World's third game in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. first person shooter series is getting closer to finalizing a US release date. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Prypiat, which is already out in parts of Europe, was previously announced for a first quarter 2010 release in the US.

Now the game's worldwide publisher BitComposer has revealed that the international version of the game will ship to stores sometime in February 2010. When it's released it will still be one of the few games that will support DirectX11 graphics. At the moment it shares that honor with Battleforge and the recently released Dirt 2.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pirpyat DirectX11 screenshots show off . . . shadows?

AMD made a big deal this week about revealing what games would be using DirectX11 as a way of promoting their new ATI Radeon chips. One of those games will be S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pirpyat and this week we got the first DirectX11 screenshots from the upcoming first person shooter along with screenshots of the DirectX10 version.

See the difference? Yep, it's hard to see but the enviromental DirectX11 shots have objects generating softer and more realistic shadows than their DirectX10 counterparts. The screenshot you see above is supposed to show a "normal" DirectX10 screenshot (on the left) and the tesselation support for DirectX11 (on the right). Quite frankly the visual difference to our eyes is minimal but perhaps it looks better in a live gameplay demo.
