PC gaming "will always be the place that drives innovation" says Irrational's Ken Levine

Irrational Games may be making titles for multiple platforms nowadays but when the game developer started it was a PC game only creative team (System Shock 2, the Freedom Force games and others). And as far as its founder Ken Levine feels,"... when it comes down to it, as a gamer, I'm a PC." In a guest post on Kotaku, Levine talks about his continued fondness for playing games on the PC, stating, " ... I like the ergonomics of the thing, the mouse and keyboard, the effortless transition from gaming to browsing to typing. I'm an alt-tab kind of guy."

While the column was supposed to be about Levine's views on the future of PC gaming, he admits, " F*** if I know." But he does say that PC gaming " ... will always be the place that drives innovation." He adds, "If you want to know the future of gaming, buy a PC. And pay attention. Because above all, that thing on your desk is a crystal ball."

BioShock Infinite trailer finds Elizabeth and monsters

BioShock Infinite is very high on most gamers' watch lists, and here comes a new trailer. Much like the original BioShock trailers, this one shows off gameplay, albeit in a heavily scripted fashion. It follows the player character after he has already arrived in Columbia, and his fight to rescue Elizabeth. There's a lot of really cool sequences, such as fighting off a politician with a newfound gun, a bar fight where you steal a shotgun with telekinesis, and the clockwork beasts at the end, so it's definitely a must-watch trailer. The only real issue is the overuse of motion blur, which can be a bit disorienting

BioShock Infinite gameplay teaser in GameTrailersTV episode

While the full gameplay trailer is still a few days away, GameTrailersTV's latest episode gave us a few seconds of teaser footage from BioShock Infinite, the upcoming "cool art style combined with cool gameplay (we hope)" first person shooter from developer Irrational Games.

The teaser footage shows off more of the floating city of Columbia and especially how your character will get around a city that's about 10,000 feet up in the air. In the meantime Irrational Games' web site continues to post up small bits of info about the game every day until the release of the full gameplay trailer early next week.

BioShock Infinite reveals new "ads" and more info

As the world awaits the release next week of the first in-game trailer for BioShock Infinite, developer Irrational Games continues to reveal more about its already highly anticipated shooter game. Game Informer's web site has now posted up some images showing the "ads" that might be seen in the game's floating city of Columbia. The ads, made to look like propaganda from the early 20th century, certainly show more than a hint of racism in this alternate world.

Meanwhile the Irrational Games web site continues to offer little snippets of info from BioShock Infinite ahead of the trailer release. They include using the city's Sky-Lines, info about your in-game companion Elizabeth and more.

The Lost's concept artwork gets found

Long before developer Irrational Games worked on the original BioShock, the developer tried to work on an ambitious retelling of the Dante's Inferno storyline called The Lost. Irrational ended up not completing the game and it remains one of the more interesting game concepts that was announced but never released.

The Irrational Games' web site has now found some concept artwork for The Lost from one of the game's enviromental artists Mauricio Tejerina (currently working on Irrational's upcoming BioShock Infinite). There's also some commentary from Tejerina on the game, saying, "We were trying to do something amazing, which we always try to do here but we were pushing it too far for that time."

Hard to believe we will be getting both StarCraft II and Civilization V in the same year. It will be interesting to compare sales of the two games when Civ V comes out next week.

BioShock Infinite gameplay trailer coming September 22

You have already seen the CGI teaser trailer for BioShock Infinite. You have seen a few in-game screenshots from Irrational Games' upcoming first person shooter. You may have even read some impressions of what some media folks think of seeing an in-game demo at the title's first media event last August.

But very soon everyone else will get to see the first in-game footage from this highly anticipated game. The official Irrational Games web site has confirmed that on September 22 it will release the gameplay demo trailer for BioShock Infinite (it appears on Xbox Live and Xbox.com one day earlier on September 21). Will the game's depiction of the floating city of Columbia at the turn of the 20th century be as cool as we want it to be? We sure hope so.

New BioShock Infinite screenshots show off more of "Handyman"

It's going to be a long, long wait until we get our hands on the final version of BioShock Infinite. The Irrational Games-developed first person shooter set on the floating city of Columbia at the turn of the 20th century isn't due out until 2012. However some new screenshots posted over at Game Informer web site makes us want to play this title right now.

The screenshots show off more of the lush art design that we have come to expect from Irrational Games and the BioShock series. It also shows off the first in-game look at the "Handyman", the steampunk cyborg that we suspect is this game's answer to the original BioShock's Big Daddy. As we said, it's going to be a long wait until 2012.

BioShock Infinite covers for Game Informer magazine are old fashioned

BioShock Infinite may not be due for release until 2012 but that fact isn't stopping Game Informer from doing something unusual for the upcoming cover story for the Irrational Games-developed first person shooter. The print magazine will be whipping up three collectible covers for the game.

But as you can see, that's not the only thing that's special about the BioShock Infinite covers. Game Informer worked closely with Irrational Games to design the look and layouts to make them look like magazines from the turn of the 20th century, where the game takes place. The above cover design also gives us our first real clear glimpse of the "Handyman" character that was shown in the shadows of the game's teaser trailer. You can bet that this issue will fly off the shelves when its released later this month.

BioShock movie is still being "actively" worked on, says Ken Levine

There have been some publicly reported budget issues with getting the planne BioShock movie up to production speed. However that doesn't mean the adaptation of Irrational Games' 2007 first person shooter is stalled. Speaking to, of all places, the Washington DC sports radio station DC 106.7, Irrational's head man Ken Levine stated that while he wasn't sure the movie version will ever be made, " ... it's something we are actively discussing, quite actively, and actively working on."

The film was announced by Universal in 2008 with Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski signed on to direct. However in 2009 the film was put on hold due to concern that it would be too expensive to produce. Later that year it was revealed that 28 Days Later's director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo would be stepping in to direct the movie with Verbinski moving to a producer role. In June 2010, Verbinski stated that he, Universal and Fresnadillo were still working to " . . . get the budget down."
