Bionic Commando Rearmed done but will still miss May release date

It looks like we will have to wait just a little bit longer to check out the upcoming 2D-3D remake of Capcom's original side-scroller Bionic Commando game. The official web site for the remake, Bionic Commando Rearmed, has revealed via its "communicator" that while the game is done the remake is still going through testing and bug fixing and as a result it will miss its planned May release date for the PC and other platforms.

The game has already generated buzz thanks to its ESRB "M" rating due to a sequence at the end that (if you haven't played the original) we won't spoil here. The remake is being developed by GRIN who is also handling the full fledged third person next-gen sequel to Bionic Commando for Capcom. Neither game has a specific release date yet.

GamersGate to get Capcom games

Valve has their Steam service, IGN has Direct2Drive and Stardock has Totalgaming.net. However a lesser known game digital delivery publisher has been Paradox Interactive who has been offering their own games as well as from other publishers like THQ and Eidos via their Gamersgate.net web site. Now you can add Capcom to that list of publishers being serviced by Gamersgate.

Among the upcoming Capcom games that will be offered for download will be the RTS title Plunder from developer Certain Affinity and Bionic Commando Rearmed, the upcoming "M" rated remake of the original 2D side-scroller from developer GRIN. It just goes to show that the growing trend of PC games being made available for paid download continues to expand and that it will become a major force in the game industry.

Bionic Commando Rearmed gets an "M" rating? Yep?

While the Entertainment Software Ratings Board has yet to officially announce this news, Capcom's official Bionic Commando web site has decided to break the news to the general public early. The upcoming downloadable side-scroller remake Bionic Commando Rearmed has been hit with an "M" rating by the ESRB. Why? Well the web site reveals the reason in a very funny way which we won't spoil here. All we will say is that people who remember the original Bionic Commando game will have to recall the final scene of the original game. That's a big clue as to why the remake has managed to get a rating sufficient to keep most school aged kids from playing (allegedly).

Regardless, the now "M" rated Bionic Commando Rearmed, developed by GRIN, is still slated for release later this spring as a downloadable title for the PC and other game platforms. GRIN and Capcom are also working on a full fledged third person next generation Bionic Commando game that will also appear on the PC and other platforms later this year.
