BFG Technologies dumps its graphics card business

One of the most well known companies that made high end Nvidia-based graphics cards for hardcore PC gamers has announced it is getting out of that business. While there is no word on this development on the company's web site, HardOCP reports that BFG Technologies sent out a press release this week that it will no longer make any more PC graphics cards.

The company stated that selling such products "is no longer profitable for us" and will now concentrate on its PC power supply products and their high end gaming PC desktops and laptops. The press release also hints that BFG is working on some unnamed new products. People who currently own BFG graphics cards will still have their warranties and tech support supplied by the company.

BFG Tech launches gaming PC laptop

Last January at CES, BFG Technologies, best known for their graphics cards, launched their high end (and highly expensive) Phobos desktop gaming PC. Besides the powerful hardware options, the Phobos line also had a Concierge Service that not only set up your PC but serviced it for free for six months. Now BFG has launched the Deimos, a high end gaming PC laptop.

With prices starting at $2299, this is definitely not a "netbook". The Deimos X-10 has an Nvidia SLI graphics set up as standard, an optional Blu-Ray disk drive, up to 8 GB of RAM, eight programmable gaming macro keys, and more. They even throw in a free backpack for your laptop and one free service visit within the the laptop's warranty period. In order to lower the sticker shock slightly, BFG is taking 10 percent off the laptop's final price until October 30.

PC Gaming Alliance announces new members

The PC Gaming Alliance has been in existence for over a year now and the non-profit group dedicated to promoting and expanding the PC game industry has just announced a number of new members to its group. Two of them are PC game developers, Gas Powered Games and InstantAction. In addition the downloadable PC game service GameTap has also joined the organization.

These three new members doubles the number of PC game developers and publishers that are a part of the group ( with Epic Games, Capcom and Microsoft being the others)

Other new members include PC hardware companies like Bigfoot Networks, BFG Technologies, and Flextronics. Game retailer GameStop is now confirmed as a new member (something which we reported first a few months ago) and the LAN Center franchise Howie's Game Shack is a new member as well.

BFG introduces liquid cooled graphics cards

Gaming PCs rigs that have liquid cooling solutions is certainly nothing new. In fact we would say it's almost passe now. But what about a way to liquid cool your graphics card? Now there's something you don't see every day. Thankfully BFG Technologies has made our dreams come true with today's introduction of their BFG Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 H2OC graphics card (seen above) and the BFG Nvidia GeForce GTX 285 H2O+ card.

BFG says both products are maintainence free and can "easily install into most systems right out of the box". They claim their ThermoIntelligence Advanced Cooling Solutions (say that three times fast) will keep the GPUs up to 30°C cooler than normal air cooler solutions. Of course, you can bet that gaming PC fans will try to overclock these puppies the first chance they get. Both these products are supposed to go on sale exclusively at NewEgg.com but there's no word yet on pricing (although we would bet that they are more experience than your average card).

BFG Tech taking orders for Phobos gaming PCs

During CES, graphics card maker BFG Technologies announced they were launching a new line of ultra-expensive gaming PCs. This week, the company began to take orders for the Phobos PC line on the product's official web site.

As we have reported before the Phobos line begins at $3,000 and in addition to having some high end PC parts inside the products have some unique features such as a 7 inch LCD touch screen where you can monitor your PCs performance and actually turn the PC one. It also has what they are calling a Concierge Service where a real live person comes and sets up your PC for you and then can come back in six months to make sure your PC is running smoothly.

CES 2009: BFG Tech launches new Phobos gaming PC line

Voodoo PC founder Rahul Sood may believe that the era of the highly expensive gaming PC is dead but apparently BFG Technologies didn't get that memo. The company, best known for their overclocked PC video graphics cards, announced their plans to launch their Phobos gaming PC line. The line will officially launch on January 8 on the company's official web site.

While the Phobos PCs can be custom-configured, the company is also offering pre-built PCs that start at "just" $3,000. In addition to features such as an 8 inch LCD touch-screen that offers up stats and performance numbers about your system, BFG is also offering what they are calling a complientary Concierge Service that includes in-home installation and a maintainence follow-up visit six months after the PC is purchased. Of course you can expect high-end hardware to be available inside including two upcoming BFG Nvidia GeForce GTX 295 graphics cards and a separate GeForce GTX 285 card for PhysX hardware support.
