More Fallout 3 DC subway ads appear

You may remember our sister site Joystiq got some pictures from Bethesda Softworks showing off their Washington DC Metro subway ads for their upcoming post-apocalypse RPG Fallout 3. This week the official Bethblog site has posted up some more new images from the subway billboards including some images that were not in the original Joystiq article.

We have reproduced them here on the site along with three wallpaper images that are based on the ad campaign. Fallout 3 will certainly have a ton more hype than any other Bethsoft release to date. Indeed the company is holding a celeb-filled launch party in LA this weekend. Again Joystiq has the details and the cool invite image.

Fallout 3 mod support could still happen

Many people might have been disappointed to hear that Bethesda Softworks' upcoming post-apocalypse RPG Fallout 3 won't have any mod tools when it is released in late October. In the past, Bethsoft has released mod tools for its last two Elder Scrolls games but according to a new chat with Pete Hines for Rock Paper Shotgun, the company is too busy finishing the game to work on mod tools for Fallout 3.

Hines denies rumors that they don't want Fallout 3 mod tools to be released because that might cut into their plans for their own paid downloadable content. He states, "If we have the time, we'd absolutely like to put them out. As we've seen with Oblivion and Morrowind those things definitely create a sense of community and there's tonnes of people out there modding." However he adds, "It's just the tools take time. They don't magically appear. Someone's got to write help files for what all the scripts do, and get it released as a consumer product. Because it's not in that state otherwise. Developers will make do with anything."

New Fallout 3 screenshots trickle out; Australia to get edited version?

Bethesda Softworks continues its practice of only releasing a few screenshots at a time of their long awaited post apocalypse RPG Fallout 3. Today the publisher released three new shots showing off some action from the game, including a visual of a previously unseen air vehicle.

Meanwhile, reports that the Australian ban of Fallout 3 may be dealt with with Bethsoft apparently agreeing to edit the game so it can be sold in that country. Details on what has been edited have not yet been revealed and so far there's no word if the edit will ensure that Fallout 3 will be released in that country. Australia's state run ratings board refused to give the game a rating due to the game's drug use.

Look out! The Brotherhood of Steel is attacking!

If you are as pumped for playing Bethesda Softworks' Fallout 3 as we are here at Big Download you know that it doesn't take much for us to post a story about the post-apocalypse RPG due out this fall. This week the official Bethblog web site gave us yet another Fallout 3 excuse as the marketing for the title goes in an interesting direction.

Specifically, Bethesda is getting ready to ship out large stand-ups of the Brotherhood of Steel to retail stores around the world. The blog site posted up pictures of a army of these huge promo items in a warehouse before they head out to stores. We think these guys could take out an army of toaster-style Cylons. What do you think?

Will Fallout 3 be banned in Australia?

The game isn't scheduled for release this fall but there's a rumor going around that Bethesda Softworks' post apocalypse themed RPG Fallout 3 may be banned in Australia. That country's version of Gamespot has posted up word from an unnamed poster on their message boards which claims the game will be refused to be rated by Australia's Office of Film and Literature Classification due to the use of drugs in the game. That move will effectively ban the game from being sold.

So far the publisher of Fallout 3 in Australia, Red Ant Enterprises, has refused comment on the rumor and the OLFC has said a final decision on the game's rating has not yet been made. It wouldn't surprise us, however, if the game is indeed banned since Australia is nortorious for keeping a number of acclaimed games from being classified for its ratings system. This is due in part to the video game ratings system only allowing games to be rated up to MA15+. There is currently nothing in that country that allows games to be rated any higher (unlike films and DVDs which can be rated at R18+).

Fallout 3: Survival Edition announced as Amazon.com exclusive

If you want the ultimate Fallout 3 experience, it looks like the recently announced Collector's Edition of the game just won't be enough. Publisher Bethesda Softworks just announced plans to offer Fallout 3: Survival Edition, a new edition of the post-apocalypse RPG that will be sold exclusively at Amazon.com.

In addition to all of the features included in the Collector's Edition of the game (the game, the lunch box container, the behind-the-scenes DVD, the hardcover art book and the Vault Boy bobblehead toy), the Survival Edition will include a life-size replica of the Pip-Boy 3000, the electronic device that is used by your player character in the game. While it can do all sorts of things in the Fallout 3 game, the real world version is used as a digital clock.

In addition, Bethesda Softworks PR head Pete Hines talks about the creation of the items in the Collector's and Survival Edition in a new diary on the game's official web site. He states that the Survival Edition wil be very limited so if you want it you need to act now. The Fallout 3: Survival Edition is now available for pre-order at Amazon.com for $119.99 for the PC version (it's $10 more for the console versions).
