Brink now due for release May 10

Game publishers continue to make slight adjustments in their game release schedules as the busy month of May approaches. Today Bethesda Softworks announced that the upcoming sci-fi first person shooter Brink will actually be coming out one week earlier than previously announced.

The game from developer Splash Damage, which was due out on May 17 in the US, will now be released on May 10 in the US. European gamers will also get Brink one week earlier; it's now due out on May 13. According to a statement from Bethesda Softworks' PR head Pete Hines, "Production wrapped on Brink earlier than we planned and we didn't see any reason to keep gamers from getting their hands on this highly anticipated game as soon as it was ready."

Rumor: Next Fallout New Vegas DLC revealed?

The second of four planned mini-expansion packs for Fallout New Vegas may have been revealed prematurely. The Fallout fan site Duck and Cover claims it has gotten some images from the next DLC's trailer which it says is title "Honest Hearts." If true that hopefully means that the official reveal for the DLC is pretty close.

Publisher Bethesda Softworks released the first DLC for the post apocalypse themed RPG, Dead Money, for the Xbox 360 late in 2010. It was finally released for the PC nearly two months later. All of the other three planned DLC releases are planned to be released for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 at around the same time.

New Rage trailer shows off the weapons

While Rage may not be the typical corridor shooter that id Software is known for in the part, that doesn't mean that the game won't have a ton of weapons for players to use. GameTrailers.com has posted up a new Rage gameplay trailer that shows off some of those weapons in action. You can check out the trailer after the jump.

You have your typical weapons of destruction to choose from; the pistol, the machine gun, the shotgun. The art design for each weapon, however, is pretty unique looking. There are also some more unusual weapons in the game such as the automatic turret; perfect for times when you have hordes of mutants charging you but all you want is to drink another beer.

Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - April 2-3

Another week is about to end. What will the next week bring us? Lots of stuff about owls, we suspect ... or maybe not:

New Elder Scrolls V Skyrim screenshots look pretty

It's not an April Fool's joke this time. Bethesda Game Studios has really and truly released some new and pretty screenshots from its upcoming fantasy RPG The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. We've put the six new screenshots into our gallery which you can see below.

The six new screens show off a variety of gameplay including the above shot which is an example of the new game's ability of players to use both of a playable character's hands at once during the game. There's also some stealth kills, some ice creatures and generally some great looking locations in the new shots. The game itself is still due for release in November.

Rage to get prose novel adapation

Just a couple of weeks before Rage is released you will be able to check out an adaptation of id Software's next first person shooter in convenient prose form. Publisher Bethesda Softworks announced that a novel version of the post-apocalyptic game will be released via Del Rey on August 30. The game itself is due out on September 13.

The novel goes deeper into the storyline for Rage and is being written by Matt Costello who is a long time collaborator with id on the third Doom game and also on Rage. Costello has previously written two novels based on the storyline for Doom 3.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge trailers find the power of cooperation

Hunted: The Demon's Forge is close to being released, and there are now two more trailers. The first details a little of the backstory behind the events of the game, while the second talks about the two characters and their various interactions while they slaughter fantasy monsters. It's almost all in-game footage, but it's also nothing new. Same footage, new context. Still, if you are getting excited for more fantasy slashing adventures, you'll definitely like this trailer.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge release date moved up by one day to May 31

While Duke Nukem Forever may have had its release date pushed back from May 3 to June 14, another game actually got its release date moved up ... by one whole day. Bethesda Softworks has announced that Hunted: The Demon's Forge, the fantasy co-op themed action-RPG from developer inXile Entertainment, will not in fact be release on June 1 in the US as previously announced.

In fact the game will be coming to the US on May 31 making the game part of the massive amount of PC game titles already set for release that month. It will also be coming out on the same day as another fantasy RPG Dungeon Siege III although admittedly both games have very different designs.

More info on Prey 2 revealed

prey 2
Last week's official reveal of Prey 2 was just the tip of the iceberg. The sequel to 2006's sci-fi first person shooter will have lots of differences from the original, according to info from Europe's GameReactor magazine (as presented by a post on the NEOGaf message boards).

Prey 2 will be an open world shooter rather than a corridor shooter like the first game, according to the post. The new lead character will also have some acrobatic abilities similar to the character in Mirror's Edge. While there are plans for downloadable content the game itself will be single player only with no multiplayer features plans. You can learn more about the Human Head-developed game in the post.

Prey 2 teaser trailer shows some live action

While we still don't know what Prey 2 looks like in the game itself, publisher Bethesda Softworks has whipped up a pretty effective live action teaser trailer for the upcoming first person shooter sequel. Gamers who have a long memory may remember that early in the first Prey game you saw a massive jetliner transported inside the alien ship. Well now you can see what happened inside that plane.

It's basically in the realm of the "found footage" genre, a la Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity, except that the footage here is taken with a smartphone camera. All in all it's a neat teaser to the Human Head Studios-developed game that's due out sometime in 2012.
