Hunted: The Demon's Forge trailer breaks away from stereotypes

We have to admit that we weren't excited for Hunted: The Demon's Forge. The crucible trailer began our turn back towards interested, and this trailer puts us all the way back into excited. While the plot seems standard enough, it's the acknowledgment that Hunted is aiming to be more about co-operative murder and mayhem than depth of plot that intrigues us. Good dungeon crawlers are few and far between, and none emulate the style of combat and visuals that Hunted seems to bring to the table.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge trailer reveals the crucible

We have to admit that this trailer has us a bit intrigued. Until now, we weren't too interested in Hunted. After all, it looked like a fairly standard third-person action game. With the reveal of how the crucible works in detail, however, we're suddenly far more interested. Randomly-generated dungeons, with waves of monstrous enemies to fight off? This sounds like something we could get into, especially with another person. Plus, you can actually tweak the settings to fully customize the dungeon, making it your own instead of some machine-created bland killfest. We aren't normally impressed by trailers, but this one blew us away.

Brink trailer shows itself ready to take on anything

While the last Brink trailer we saw showed us the core abilities of the various classes, this one goes into a little more depth regarding all abilities. Specifically, it presents some of the abilities you unlock by progressing through the multiplayer. With goodies like mainframe hacking tools, self-revive needles, and portable turrets, it certainly looks like it will be a blast. The more gameplay footage we see, the more we hope that it will be a worthy successor to the Enemy Territory name.

Brink trailer showcases different class roles

Brink is one of the few games that we are genuinely excited about this year, and this trailer sums up why in very simple terms: appearance customization, gun load-outs, and most importantly, the different abilities of each class. Much like Quake Wars, Brink has four classes that can each perform specific special abilities. Soldier can plant bombs, medic and heal and revive, engineer can repair and construct, and operative can disguise. It's fairly standard class stuff (it's been around since the days of Team Fortress, after all), but when mixed with all the other goodies, it comes out feeling like characters have a genuine stake in their multiplayer characters. A fantastic trailer, both for information and to get the hype meter up and going.

Rage trailer gives extended look at the post-apocalypse

This is one of the better trailers we've seen for Rage, as it combines our two loves - story exposition and game footage - into one delicious whole. This trailer gives a little background into the current mythos, showcases game mechanics for both on foot and in vehicle sections, and even has a fat man telling you about the rules of his little game. There's no developer interviews or walkthroughs here, just action and more action. It's a pretty interesting trailer and it just gets us more pumped for Rage's release.

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim combat details revealed

Game Informer's web site continues to offer up more info about The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim, the upcoming next game in the long running fantasy RPG series from developer Bethesda Game Studios. Today the site has a lengthy article that goes into detail on the game's combat features.

The article talks about some features that have been revealed before, such as having your character wield two weapons (one for each hand) or even be able to use two spells at the same time. There will also be effects like camera shakes in melee combat in order to make it look and feel more realistic. There will also be special kill animations and finishing moves that will pop up depending on your weapon, the enemy you are facing and the surrounding environments. As far as spells, there will be over 85 different ones in the game across five different schools of magic.

Arx Fatalis source code released; new patch improves performance

Not too many PC games get official patches over eight years after the game is released. Today that is happening with Arx Fatalis, the 2002 released fantasy first person action-RPG that was also the first game from developer Arkane Studios. Today its new owner Bethesda Softworks announced via its Bethblog that the developer has released a new official patch for the game (1.21) that's designed to improve performance on some Nvidia-based graphics cards, improve stability while playing on Windows Vista and Windows 7 and fix a few bugs. You can check out the change log right here.

In addition to this patch, Arkane Studios has also released the full source code for Arx Fatalis for mod users to alter as they wish. Arkane is currently working on an unannounced game for Bethesda Softworks.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim trailer finds the Dragonborn

Bethesda has blown plenty of people away with their new Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim announcement, and for good reason: this trailer is ridiculously cool. A dragon emerging from a stone mural to breathe a fiery stone breath at a representation of its greatest enemy is baffling from a story perspective, but it's one of the most interesting cinematics we've seen. We especially love the fire effect, as its almost creepy how it works. Not much information besides the player character (Dragonborn), release window (around November 2011), and game engine (not Gamebyro, thank goodness) has been released., so now we play the waiting game.

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim to use new game engine "built internally"

Saturday night's surprise announcement of The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim by developer Bethesda Game Studios and publisher Bethesda Softworks has gotten perhaps the most buzz out of all the reveals at the Video Game Awards. Since then the game's official teaser site and Facebook page have launched. Today a little more info on the game came to light as Bethesda' Nick Breckon posted word on his Twitter page, "We can now confirm that the TES V: Skyrim engine is all-new. And it looks fantastic." That means the new game is abandoning the engine that has been used for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as well as the developer's last game Fallout 3.

While some have already speculated that the new engine being used is id Tech 5, the same engine that id Software (owned by Bethesda Softworks) is using for its upcoming shooter Rage, Breckon would only say in a following "tweet", "
It's a new graphics/gameplay engine built internally. We'll have more details down the road."

Fallout New Vegas gets new PC update

Fallout New Vegas now has a new update to download via Steam as promised by publisher Bethesda Softworks last week. Unlike the first two PC patches for the recent post-apocalypse RPG there are actual patch notes for this new update to the Obsidian Entertainment-developed game.

This patch, labeled as 1.1.1, deals in part with a couple of issues for the game's companions. They now "show up as waypoints on the map" with this patch and also "will always fast travel with you, unless told to wait or sent away." There are also quite a few technical bugs that have been fixed with this patch. A more compressive update is promised for the near future.
