Brink trailers teach us some lessons

With just a couple of weeks left before Brink is finally released, developer Splash Damage and publisher Bethesda Softworks have started releasing what can be described as instructional videos designed to get players up to speed on the many unique aspecits of this first person shooter.

The first video, Basics, does exactly what it states. It goes over all aspects of the game quickly including gameplay modes, character classes, UI features and more. The second video goes into much more detail on the objectivs and challenges that the player will have to go through to gain experience points in the game. Brink finally takes us to school on May 10.

First official Prey 2 screenshot and concept artwork released

While a few print magazines have had cover stories about Prey 2, we have yet to see any official screenshots from the sequel to the 2006 released sci-fi first person shooter. That changed today as the Bethesda Softworks' blog page offered up the first official internet screenshot from the game.

The screenshot, show above and in higher resolution in our new gallery, shows off what looks like a firefight in an alien bar. The Bethblog web site also has a concept artwork piece from Prey 2 that shows off another alien location. The game itself from developer Human Head Studios is due for release sometime in 2012.

Bethesda Softworks developers to lecture at USC's game school

How would you like to go to a school where, say, the developers of The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim came by to talk about making the upcoming fantasy RPG? Or perhaps team members from id Software showed up to speak about making its upcoming shooter Rage? If you attend the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, that's exactly what will happen.

Bethesda Softworks announced this week that it has an agreement with USC to have team members from their internal development studios like Bethesda Game Studios, id Software, and Arkane Studios show up to speak to the students who have enrolled at the school's Interactive Media Division. There's no word yet if John Carmack or Todd Howard will be making appearances.

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim in-game footage to debut Thursday

The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim made a huge surprise splash when it was first announced back in December and since then we have learned more aboth the fantasy RPG sequel from Betheda Game Studios. While we have seen screenshots from the game there hasn't been any in-game video footage yet.

That will change on Thursday as publisher Bethesda Softworks now has a countdown clock on its official web site that, when it reaches zero, will reveal the first in-game trailer footage from The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. Hopefully the video will showcase the game's new Creation Engine and its graphical improvements over previous games from the developer.

QuakeCon 2010 to feature on-site registration only

We've been waiting for a while for registration for QuakeCon 2010 to begin and now the official word has come in on how to registered for the annual free LAN-gaming event sponsored by id Software and its parent company Zenimax Media. Simply put there will be no internet-based registration. For the first time everyone who attends the event will register at QuakeCon itself at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas on August 12-15

The press release states that the new on-site registration process is "designed to reduce the time BYOC (Bring-Your-Own-Computer) attendees spend waiting to register equipment." A post on QuakeCon's official forums a few weeks ago from one of the event's organizers mentioned there would also be a premium registration option for the BYOC area but today's press release makes no mention of any such option.

The press release also mentions that QuakeCon 2010 will once again feature Quake Live based pro gaming tournaments. For the first time, the tournaments will also have a 250-seat spectator area where attendees can watch the tournaments live.
