Activision announces Call of Duty: World at War beta, release date

Developer Treyarch and publisher Activision have announced that Call of Duty: World at War will enter into beta phase this October. The beta will allow PC and Xbox 360 players to help Treyarch and Activision refine the World at War experience for retail release on November 11 of this year.

Prospective recruits can register for the beta at CallOfDuty.com. Beta access is expected to last until shortly before World at War's release in mid-November. In addition to bug and stability feedback reports, players will undoubtedly make use of the one month head start to perfect tactics that will give them the edge against players lacking beta experience.

Runescape expands with HD beta

Say what you will about Runescape. It's still an incredibly popular game with lots of both free and subscription players. As our sister-site Massively reported a few weeks ago, the developers have no seen fit to grace the player base with a graphically enhanced version that is suitably dubbed Runescape HD (for High Detail, not High Definition). At the moment it's in semi-closed beta. Any subscriber can get in and play, but free members will have to wait a few weeks until they can experience the new graphical fidelity. Don't worry free members. Soon you'll get to see those lovely anti-aliased 3D graphics in the same light that paying members do. If that's your thing, anyways.

Sudden Strike 3 add-on gets beta treatment

The Sudden Strike series of games, while definitely not appealing to the mass-market, are decent entries in the real-time tactics genre. The World War 2 setting and limited reinforcements only ratchet up the tension that much more. The third one, while not exactly the most well-received game, is still a decent entry in the franchise worth playing for any fan. The developer, Fireglow Games, recently announced the opening of the beta test for their new free add-on. The add-on includes several new maps and missions for players to delve into. If that's your thing, you can get the installer off of the official developer website.

Requiem: Bloodymare enters open beta

In much the same vein as the Megami Tensei RPG series, Requiem: Bloodymare is meant to be a horror-fueled post-apocalyptic look at demons and technology. With its massive amounts of gore and giblet physics, Bloodymare definitely sets itself apart, at least graphically, from the horde of World of Warcraft lookalikes.

For those antsy to dip their hands into the gallons of blood present in Bloodymare, good news for you. The game has entered open beta, allowing anyone to sign up and play the full game for free. While the game will be free later on, it won't have all content available to those playing it for free once it hits the release version. So give it a whirl now! You can sign up for and download the beta at the official site.

Quake Live accepting sign-ups for beta

Following news that they were doing a browser port of Quake III, and that it has been renamed to Quake Live, id has finally opened up the beta for anybody to sign up. At this point, it's pretty much shooting out an e-mail and hoping you can get your frag on, but it is free after all.

There's no other information on the site besides beta sign-ups, but really, what other information do you need? It's Quake, after all. We guarantee that there will be rockets, gibs, and frenetic action for all who play.
