This Week in PC Games: May 11-17


A WWII naval action-strategy game and a co-op shooter that based on a UT 2004 mod are among the highlights of the new games coming to both stores and via download this week. In addition, you can expect to see re-released game collections such as Civilization IV Complete and Left 4 Dead Game of the Year in stores this week.

Battlestations: Pacific: This sequel to Eidos's 2007 Battlestations: Midway lets players take control of the naval fleets of the US and Japan in this combination of strategy and action genre. You can download a demo of the game right now at Big Download.

Battlestations: Pacific video offers more island capturing tips


This gameplay video for Battlestations: Pacific doesn't include a narrated commentary, so you'll have to pay close attention to pick up the island capturing tactics demonstrated in it. It continues from a previous video released a few months ago. Battlestations: Pacific is set to release next week. Those that pre-order through Steam can get the previous game, Battlestations: Midway for free. The demo can be downloaded here.

Battlestations: Pacific video reveals the Japanese strategy


This Battlestations: Pacific gameplay scenario takes the point of view of Japanese forces as they make their way toward the Hawaiian Islands. In this battle, both sides throw everything they have at each other, including the devastating kamikaze maneuver. New Steam game deals and sales revealed


Valve isn't wasting any time this week. Instead of waiting for the weekend their Steam PC game download service is already offering a couple of deals for customers. One is for the upcoming Eidos WWII action-strategy game Battlestations: Pacific. People who pre-order the game can download the first title in the series, Battlestations: Midway, for free. That's a $19.99 value right there.

Not only that but Valve has yet another sale to talk about. From now until May 11, Steam customers can get the recent PC port of Digital Extremes' action game Dark Sector for $13.33. That's a 33 percent savings off its already low price of $19.99.

This the playable demo for Battlestations: Pacific, the history-themed action game that lets players command either Allied American forces or Japanese forces in the Pacific Theater. The full game is scheduled to release on May 12th.Continue reading after the jump for system requirements.

  • One action-packed mission (Divine Winds of Leyte) from the US campaign

Battlestations Pacific demo coming next week


Gamers who are itching to get their WWII action-strategy addiction going can rest easy with a free hit of Battlestations Pacific. The newly bought out publisher Eidos has just announced that a demo of their upcoming title will be released on Thursday, April 30, The game will be released via Microsoft's Games For Windows Live client.

The demo will contain a full single player mission from the US campaign which will put the player " . . into the thick of the action with a Kamikaze attack on a US carrier fleet." In additon two of the game's multiplayer modes, Island Capture and Siege, will be made available in the demo. Both can be played online as well as in an offline Skirmish mode.

UK burlesque dancer to adorn Battlestations Pacific's US planes


It was a well know practice to have pin-up girls illustrated on the sides of Allied planes in World War II. Today developer/publisher Eidos has announced they will use the likeness of the real UK burlesque dancer "Miss Polly Rae" as one of the nose art images available for placing on US fighter planes in the upcoming action-strategy title Battlestations Pacific.

Rae is the founder of Hurly Burly, a leading burlesque dance squad in the UK. She's also appeared on many UK magazine covers as well as numerous TV appearances in that country. Eidos sent over some screenshots showing how the nose art with her likeness will appear in the final game, which is due for release in mid-May.

Battlestations: Pacific competitve gameplay trailer fires all guns


This gameplay trailer for Battlestations: Pacific is pretty straightforward in showing off a head-to-head battle between two players. Players will be able to switch between directing battleships to flying airplanes to gain the advantage. The game is scheduled to release in May.
