Download: Theatre of War 3: Korea Demo

This is the playable demo for Theatre of War 3 Korea is a full featured version of the game! It allows access to all the missions, features, editors, save games and even multiplayer as the full version. The only restriction is that you are allowed only 60 minutes total gameplay running time before the demo will expire. Continue reading after the jump for system requirements.

"Replay the events of the first hot war of the Cold War era, the Korean War, also known as the Forgotten War. Players will be involved in two campaigns, both set in the 1950's: the North Korean (June 25 – August 20) and the American (September 15 – October 8).

In this title tactical engagement experts can test their skills on a new strategic level. Move your forces over the entire Korean Peninsula, managing reserves, as well as the fuel and ammo supplies. Tactical battles in Theatre of War 3: Korea are generated based on the strategic situation."

Theatre of War 3: Korea due for release March 24

The Theatre of War RTS series has had two installments (plus expansion packs) both of which were set in World War II. Now the third installment is ready to move out and into another war theatre. 1C Company announced that Theatre of War 3 Korea has gone gold and will be available to download on March 24.'

The game will feature two single player campaigns; one for the North Korea side and one for the US faction and both set in 1950 with highly realistic units and battles. The game will be made available for download via Steam. You can also get it from Battlefront.com via download and in a boxed copy via mail order for $35.

Combat Mission Battle For Normandy announced

When developer Battlefront.com started the Combat Mission turn-based military strategy games years ago they were set first in World War II before moving onto a modern setting. This week Battlefront.com announced plans to take the series back to WWII with Combat Mission Battle for Normandy.

This game concentrates on when the Allied forces invaded France at Normandy to take on the Nazis, from Operation Overlord (better know as D-Day) in June 1944 to August 1944. Look for individually modeled soldiers, destructable buildings, deformable terrain, two campaigns, several solo missions, a mission editor and more. There's no word yet on when the game will be released.

PT Boats: South Gambit announced; to be released later this month

A little while ago, developer Akella and publisher Battlefront.com released PT Boats: Knights of the Sea, a WWII naval warfare simulation that was one of the first games to use DirectX 10 supported graphics. Today Battlefront.com announced it would publish PT Boats: South Gambit, sometime later in October.

This stand alone expansion pack to the original game (you won't need the first game to play it) features two new settings in World War II. The first has players piloting their small torpedo boats in the Mediterranean while the other is set in the Black Sea. Look for improved graphics and AI in this new game, new ships and other gameplay additions such as torpedo bombers and mine fields. Pricing for PT Boats: South Gambit has not been announced.

Combat Mission Afghanistan released

The Combat Mission turn-based military strategy games have mostly been about US military forces but this week the publisher of those games, Battlefront.com, has released something a bit unique. It's Combat Mission Afghanistan and its the first game in the series that was development primarily for a Russian audience.

Developed by Snowball Studios, the game takes place in two different time periods in the 1980s where the Soviet Union was trying (unsuccessfully as it turns out) to occupy and conquer Atghanistan. The game itself allows you to play as both the Soviets and as the mujahedeen resistance troops. The game is now available for $35 for either digital download or mail order or $45 for both versions.

Combat Mission Shock Force NATO announced

War game developer and publisher Battlefront.com has been releasing games in their Combat Mission series for a long time. Today the company revealed plans to release Combat Mission Shock Force NATO, the third "module" in their modern warfare-themed series.

This new product will add three new armies to the game (Germany, Canada and the Netherlands) and will also add more "units and vehicles for the Syrian side". The game will also feature a number of new scenarios and three new campaigns along with new voices, sound effects and other unnamed new features. There's no word yet on when it will be released.

The demo for historical strategy game Theatre of War 2: Kursk 1943 includes the tutorial, one Soviet misison, one German mission and a mission generator with limited functionality (one map and limited number of available troops). Continue reading after the jump for system requirements.

Combat Mission Afghanistan announced

Battlefront.com has been releasing games in their Combat Mission 3D military strategy series for some time. This week the publisher announced the latest game in the series, Combat Mission Afghanistan. It's the first game in the series that isn't being developed internally by Battlefront.com but by a third party team, the Russian-based Snowball.

Due to be released in the second quarter of 2010, the game takes place in two periods of the 1980s during the Soviet Union's failed invasion of Afghanistan (cue Rambo III music here). Players will be able to control the Soviet forces as well as the official Afghan army and the mujahedeen guerrilla forces.

GoG.com adds Strategic Command to PC game library


With the holidays over and done with, the folks at GoG.com have gone back to their regular updates of adding more games to their DRM-free PC game library. The latest addition is Strategic Command: European Theater, a WWII strategy game from developer/publisher Battlefront.com.

First released in 2002, this old school turn based strategy game is mostly made for multiplayer with support for hotseat, TCP/IP and even play by email options possible. You can download and purchase the game for $9.99. In addition to the new game, GoG.com has added additional free materials for a number of their previous titles including soundtracks for games like Commandos 2, Imperial Glory, Incoming, Praetorians and Tropico Reloaded.

PT Boats: Knights of the Sea released via download


In what may be the last full PC game released in 2009, Battlefront.com has now announced that the World War II naval war simulation PT Boats: Knights of the Sea is now available to download and purchase via the Battlefront.com site. The game from developer Akella is still one of the few games that supports DirectX10 graphics.

While the downloadable version of the game is available now, the box copy version will be mailed out to orders in 14 to 21 days. The mail order box version contains the game, a manual and a ship guide that is unique to the mail order edition. A demo for the game is still scheduled for release in the next few days.
