Battlefield Bad Company 2 to get its own DLC network

When BioWare released Mass Effect 2 last month it also included the Cerberus Network which let people who purchase the game as new to download free new content. Now comes word that another Electronic Arts product, Battlefield Bad Company 2, is also going to have a similar network.

MTV's Multiplayer web site reports that the upcoming first person shooter from Digital Illusions will have a "VIP code" with every new copy of the game. When entered the code opens up an DLC store that will have free content to download. In fact there will be new free multiplayer maps to download via the network on launch day. The code will be tied into the user's EA.com account so if you purchased a used copy of Battlefield Bad Company 2 you will likely have to pay extra to gain access to the DLC network.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 PC beta gets automatic update

The release yesterday of the multiplayer beta for Battlefield Bad Company 2 wasn't without issues. As we reported earlier this morning using the beta's server browser for the upcoming first person shooter caused the beta to crash to the desktop. Now a new automatic update to the game has solved that problem.

The small patch (which is also available to those players who downloaded the beta via Steam) also fixes a couple of issues with running the game on Windows XP as well as dealing with mouse sensitivity issues. Again you can download the full beta client right here at Big Download.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 PC beta dealing with server browser bugs

After the massive rush to download the Battlefield Bad Company 2 PC beta client on Thursday, players have been dealing with a rather odd bug that causes the beta to crash to desktop when using the game's server browser. Now it looks like developer Digital Illusions is aware of the bug but has a rather simple workaround for the issue.

On the game's UK message boards, a DICE rep states, "We are aware of a number of crashes when people are using the server browser in game. Please help us pin point the issue by avoiding the use of the browser and instead using the PLAY NOW button. This will help us locate the cause as well as allow you into the beta servers without CTD." So in other words this is the equivalent of the old joke, "Doctor it hurts when I do this." "Well then don't do that." Hehe.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 PC beta details revealed; DRM explained

Tomorrow, Digital Illusions will begin the long awaited PC multiplayer beta test for their first person shooter Battlefield Bad Company 2. So it stands to reason that the developer wants to get all those players ready for its launch. Now the game's blog site has some details on the beta launch which should begin at noon Eastern time on Thursday.

The beta client itself will apparently be available on various mirror and torrent sites along with Steam. The client will also have SecuROM which DICE says is being used only "to make it difficult to hack the Closed Beta client to run the final game". The final game will also use SecuROM for a one-time authentication only; once that happens you can play the single player gae without needing to go online. EA will allow for the full game to be installed on up to 10 PCs. However the full version will also require an EA.com account to play online.

Rumor: Battlefield Bad Company 2 PC beta to begin January 28?

Digital Illusions announced last month that PC players would have to wait until "early 2010" to get into the multiplayer beta for Battlefield Bad Company 2. Now a listing on GameStop's web site indicates that if you reserve your copy of the game now, you will get access to the beta test on January 28. The site also states the beta will end on February 25.

Naturally this info should be considered a rumor since it comes from a retailer and not from DICE itself. However the timing of the beta would seem to be about right considering the full game is scheduled to ship to stores on March 2.
