Rumor: Battlefield 3 Limited Edition to include revamped Battlefield 2 content?

Battlefield 3 details are starting to leak out to the internet following the multiplayer shooter's official announcement on Friday. Computer and Video Games claims in a new story that a leaked ad for the game shows that the Limited Edition of the Digital Illusions-developed game will provide gamers from content from the series' last installment Battlefield 2.

Specifically, the Limited Edition is supposed to give gamers access to a special four level map pack containing revamped versions of classic Battlefield 2 maps but redone in Battlefield 3's new Frostbite 2 graphics engine. In addition vehicles and weapons from Battlefield 2 will show up in the Limited Edition of Battlefield 3 along with "unique rewards, new Achievements/Trophies and more." Folks who don't pre-order the Limited Edition version of the game will apparently still be able to access its extra via paid DLC sometime after the game is released.

Battlefield Play4Free announced; closed beta sign-ups begin

As promised earlier this week, Electronic Arts has announced a new game in the Battlefield series. Battlefield Play4Free (yeah, it's an awkward title) is being developed by the same development team that made the previous free-to-play PC game Battlefield Heroes.

This new first person shooter game is set in the modern day and has a more realisitic art style than the cartoony look of Battlefield Heroes. It will have support for up to 32 players and combines maps found in Battlefield 2 with some of the classes and weapons that are in the most recent game Battlefield Bad Company 2. Players will level up as they play the game and as with Battlefield Heroes will use in-game money to purchase new weapons and other items.

The game's official web site is already taking sign-ups for the game's closed beta test which is scheduled to begin on November 30. Open beta is scheduled to begin in early 2011 and the final version will launch in spring 2011.

Gamescom is over but the new PC game announcements are still coming. A new game based on the Neverwinter Nights D&D universe but made by an MMO developer? That's wild.

Christmas one day sales now on Steam

Christmas Day means Steam users now have a new list of one day sales for PC games to check out during their annual holiday sales event. For the next 23 hours only six games have had their prices reduced by as much as 90 percent off their regular Steam rates.

Today those games include Red Faction Guerrilla and King's Bounty: Armored Princess for just $9.99 each, Resident Evil 5 for $24.99, and Battlefield 2: Complete Collection for a mere $7.49. In addition there are two indie games that can picked up for a mere pittance. Cogs is on sale for just $1.99 and if that's too much to pay the seasonal game Elf Bowling: Hawaiian Vacation can be your for just one dollar.

Six more EA PC games reach Steam

Even though the Steam service is the biggest signal downloadable source for full PC games, some recent major PC game titles still haven't shown up (Wolfenstein, anyone?). Electronic Arts has now offered six more of their PC games via Steam today. The list includes some older titles and a couple of more recent releases

The most recent game on the list is Need For Speed Shift which is on sale for its full $49.99 price. Other more recent games include Command and Conquer Red Alert 3 Uprising and The Godfather II. Older games include Battlefield 2 (including the recent 1.50 patch and the now free mini-expansions), The Godfather and Medal of Honor Airborne, the latter two of which are on sale for just $9.99 each.

Download: Battlefield 2 v1.5 Patch

it's been over four years since the Battlefield 2 first released on the PC, and it gained quite a loyal following. After years of development, DICE and EA have released patch 1.5, which adds the new map Operation Pearl to the game. That's just the start, because in addition to both widescreen and Novint Falcon controller support, the patch installs the booster packs Euro Force and Armored Fury. Both were once pay-for DLC expansions, and now they're completely free. Things don't get much better than that. A full list of changes can be seen after the jump.

Battlefield 2 patch to be released Tuesday; previous map packs now free

Battlefield 2 players have been waiting, waiting and waiting for the final official release of the 1.50 patch for their first person shooter from Digital Illusions and Electronic Arts. Now the game's official blog site has announced that after a year of development and three beta tests, the final official 1.50 patch will indeed be released this coming Tuesday.

In addition to adding a new map (Operation Blue Pearl) to the game, the patch will have a number of additional features (such as widescreen support and support for the Novint Falcon controller) along with gameplay changes and bug fixes. It will also require that a previously released map, Highway Tampa, be installed into the main game. Finally the two previously released Battlefield 2 Booster Packs (Euro Forces and Armored Fury), each with three maps, will now be included in the free patch. All in all this update will add eight free maps for Battlefield 2 players.

New Battlefield 2 beta patch released

It's taken quite a long time but Electronic Arts has finally released a new beta patch for their multiplayer oriented shooter Battlefield 2 on the official Battlefield site. The 1.50 patch for the game has been in development for a long, long time but it is now ready for the public to test out on their own before the development team at Digital Illusions makes it final.

The 1.50 beta patch includes an all-new map (Operation Blue Pearl) along with new support for widescreen resolutions, additional support for Windows Vista and support for the Novint Falcon PC game controller. According to the note the beta patch will be run for a couple of weeks before the final patch is released.

New Battlefield 2/2142 map coming in next update

Digital Illusions has about 5 million upcoming Battlefield projects in the works (ok, it's just four but it seems like 5 million at times). But the development teams continue to update two of their earlier games; Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142. This week the official Battlefield web site has posted up word that new patches for the game are in the world (1.50 for Battlefield 2 and 1.51 for Battlefield 2142).

The update will include an all new map, Operation Blue Pearl, that's designed for both games to be a tight infantry city based level. It will also include some kind of beach landing, a la the Omaha Beach level in Battlefield 1942. Open beta testing for the patch and map should begin soon.
