First chapter of Back to the Future game released for free (not April Fool's)

This could be considered to be an April Fool's joke but Telltale Games assures us that this deal is indeed for real. The first chapter of the developer's five part Back to the Future downloadable adventure game series has now been released for free.

Yes, now you can check out the first episode of this unofficial sequel to the beloved movie trilogy as Marty Mcfly goes time traveling again, this time to the 1930's where he meets up with a younger version of Doc Brown. You will have to sign up for a free Telltale Games announce to download the first episode but aside from that the chapter is totally free and there's no time limit on this offer either. You can still order the entire five part series (chapter three was just released this week) for $24.99.

Back to the Future Episode 3 released

As promised earlier this week, Telltale Games has now released the third episode for Back to the Future for the PC and Mac as the developer continues its "sequel" to the classic sci-fi movie trilogy. This third episode is titled Citizen Brown and as you can see in the above screenshot Marty McFly has traveled to an alternate 1986 where Hill Valley has been taken over by a fascist version of his long time friend Doc Brown.

As we reported last week this episode also sees the return of Marty's girlfriend Jennifer Brown, voiced by Claudia Wells, who portrayed the character in the first Back to the Future movie.

Back To The Future's Claudia Wells returns to voice Jennifer in Telltale's next game chapter

The third chapter of Telltale Games's movie-based adventure game Back To The Future is due out via download for the PC and Mac next week and it shows our time traveling hero Marty McFly entering into yet another altered 1986 time line. However a new behind-the-scenes video for Episode 3, Citizen Brown, shows that another member from the movie's original cast is back voicing her role for the game, joining Christopher Lloyd's Doc Brown.

That happens to be Claudia Wells, who played Marty's girlfriend Jennifer Brown in the first movie in the trilogy (Elizabeth Shue took over the role for the final two films). In Citizen Brown, Jennifer is no longer Marty's girlfriend and indeed has a new look and attitude compared to her movie counterpart. You can check out the trailer after the jump:

Back To The Future's next episode due for release next week

Back To The Future's third episode from developer Telltale Games has taken a little while to get here (the last episode was released via download on February 16) but in the company's latest online newsletter Telltale has announced that the third chapter of its movie-based adventure game will in fact be released next week for the PC and Mac.

The chapter is called Citizen Brown and has Marty heading back to an time altered 1986 where Doc Brown now rules over everything as, well, First Citizen Brown. It looks like Back to the Future's "season" will overlap with another Telltale movie based game as Jurassic Park's first episode is due for release in April.

Back To The Future episodic game to show up in retail stores

While developer Telltale Games' newly launched episodic adventure game series Back to the Future is only available via download for now that won't be the case forever. MCV reports that the company plans to offer the continuation of the beloved movie trilogy in a retail store version that will collect all five episodes (at the moment just the first chapter has been released via download). There's no word on when the retail version will be released.

Telltale's episodic games have had some retail releases before, most notably the first two "seasons" of its Sam and Max series. People who purchase the downloadable seasons of Telltale's games can also get a boxed DVD collection of the episode via mail order. These collections always have lots of extras and behind-the-scenes content.

Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - December 22

For a day that's only a few days away from THE BIG DAY, we certainly had a ton of news to report. Hopefully tomorrow things will actually slow down a tick:

Interview: We chat with Telltale's co-designer about the Back To The Future episodic game

Making a movie-based game is in many case just a chance to drum up some PR and marketing for the movie itself. That doesn't appear to be the case for developer Telltale Games' upcoming five-part adventure game series based on the classic Back to the Future movie trilogy. From what we can tell this game was made with lots of love of the original films (hey, even Christopher Lloyd is back voicing Doc Brown. Great Scott!)

Starting on Wednesday gamers head back to Hill Valley (what state is Hill Valley located in, by the way?) for the first episode. We catch up with the ultimate reluctant time traveller Marty McFly as he takes the DeLorean out on yet another 88 MPH trip back in time. In the first episode he heads to the 1930s to rescue his old friend and creator of time travel Doctor Emmett Brown, but first has to deal with a younger version of the Doc. This promises to be heavy.

Big Download got a chance to ask some questions to Telltale Games' co-designer and writer Andy Hartzell about the game ahead of its Wednesday launch for the PC and Mac. Will he tell us about all the time twists and turns in the game and working directly with the movie's co-screenwriter Bob Gale? Check after the jump to find out:

This Week In PC Games: December 20-26

Believe it or not there are a couple of new downloadable adventure games due out this coming Christmas week for PC gamers. One is the first episode of a series that continues a great movie trilogy. The other is the final chapter of a series that links to a popular sci-fi show.

Back To The Future: Episode 1 - Developer Telltale Games begins its latest episodic adventure game series this week with the first chapter in a five-part storyline that picks up about six months after the events of the famous sci-fi movie trilogy. Marty McFly heads back to 1930s Hill Valley and meets up with a young Doc Brown in this first chapter.

Back To The Future game releases first episode on December 22

If you have been waiting patiently to learn when the first chapter of Telltale Games' Back to the Future episodic game would be released, the wait is over. Telltale has just announced that the first chapter, It's About Time, will be hitting the 88 MPH mark and landing in our hard drives via download a week from today, December 22.

Telltale is selling the entire five chapter "season" on its web site for $24.95 and today the developer is also announcing that after the five episodes are released in downloadable form, every one who ordered the season will get a collector's edition DVD of the series for free (not including shipping and handling). Presumably the DVD collection will also have some behind-the-scenes extras just like previous Telltale Games have had.

More info on Back To The Future game including the intro of Biff

The episodic Back To The Future game from developer Telltale Games is still prepping for the first episode's release sometime later in December. This week the game's official web site got a major update with quick synopses of all of the game's five chapters (obviously there are some spoilers for those of you who want to play the game cold).

There's also some new designs for some of the game's characters including confirmation that one of the movie's greatest villains, Biff Tannen, will be showing up to make Marty and Doc's life hard. Unfortunately it looks like Tom Wilson, who played the role (as well as past and future versions) in all three movies won't be handling the voice for the character.
