This Week In PC Games: March 21-27

It's a huge week for PC gaming fans as a ton of major titles are planned for release in the next seven days. The week includes the latest title in the acclaimed sci-fi shooter series, a spin-off of one of PC's best selling franchises, a PC port of 2010's best console game and the latest game in the Lego series.

Crysis 2 - Crytek's sci-fi shooter series comes back for its third stand alone game (Crysis and Crysis Warhead were released first) as the man in the Nanosuit fights off an alien invasion in the urban jungle on Manhattan Island. It's also the first game that will use Crytek's CryEngine 3.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood PC coming in four different versions [Update]

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood for the PC may be released a few months later than the console versions but publisher Ubisoft seems to be going all out in giving lots of attention to the PC port of their hit action game. Today Ubisoft announced that the PC version would be made available in no less than four different versions.

All four versions can be purchased on Ubisoft's web store. There's the standard edition (both retail and digital) that has the game and all of the DLC content that was released for the console versions. The Digital Deluxe version has a lot of extra in-game content and more behind the scenes extras. There's also the Special Edition with some extra content (including an extra multiplayer map) and the super fancy Codex Edition which comes in a "beautiful and detailed Renaissance style chest" and has lots of extras and in-game content.

Update: Ubisoft has confirmed that the US version of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood will be released on March 22, not March 18 as it has listed in the press release.

Crysis 2 action figures in stores now

This week's Toy Fair event in New York City showed us that game-based action figures are alive and well. Now a company called Unimax have announced plans to launch a game-based action figure line called Gamestars. Figures.com reports that the first game to be adapted into the 1/8 scale action figures is none other than Crysis 2. Indeed the first set of figures from Crytek's upcoming first person shooter should be in stores right now.

The Gamestar line has some plans to release even more game-related action figure sets in 2011. While they were not on display at Toy Fair this week the company announced that figures based on Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, Red Faction Armageddon and Ghost Recon Future Soldier are all in the works.

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood PC gets March 17 release date

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood finally has a release date for the PC port of Ubisoft's third game in the action game series. The game's official message boards have revealed that PC version will be released in North America and most of Europe on March 17. UK gamers will get the game a day later on March 18.

The PC version is said to have all of the downloadable content that was made available for the console versions of the title after it was released for the Xbox 360 and PS3 back in November. The PC port will also have support for Nvidia's 3D Vision tech as well as AMD Radeon's Eyefinity multi-monitor support.

Ubisoft reveals latest financial results

Ubisoft is the latest game publisher to reveal its financial results for the quarter that ended on December 31, 2010. Revenues came in at 600 million euros, up from the 495 million that the company generated for the same period a year ago. Part of the reason for the increase was the sales success for the console versions of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood which so far has sold 6.5 million copies.

Ubisoft is still saying that the PC port of the game will be released sometime before the end of March along with the flight sim game IL-2 Sturmovik Cliffs of Dover. The press release didn't mention any release date for the many other games the company has in the works, including Driver: San Fransisco, Ghost Recon Future Warrior, and the Maniaplanet/Trackmania 2 launch.

Report: Assassin's Creed Brotherhood PC to include 3D and multi-monitor support

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood has been out for the Xbox 360 and PS3 for three months now but at the moment PC gamers are still waiting for the promised PC version of the third game in the Ubisoft action game series. While Ubisoft has been silent on when the PC port will be released, the German web site Gamestar has posted up an article that looks at what PC players can expect when the port finally comes out.

According to the article (translated by Google) the game will have improved graphics compared to the console ports, including support for ambient occlusion for lighting. The game will also support Nvidia's 3D Vision tech for playing the game in 3D. PCs with AMD Radeon graphics chips will also be able to play the game with its Eyefinity multi-monitor support. The article also claims that all of the downloadable content that was released for the console versions will be included in the PC port. Assassin's Creed Brotherhood for the PC is supposed to be released by the end of March.
