American McGee to pitch his version of a Red Riding Hood game at GDC

While designer American McGee and his team at Spicy Horse are continuing to work on their remake of American McGee's Alice for Electronic Arts, the company also has another game that he plans to pitch to publishers during next week's Game Developers Conference. On his Flickr web page, McGee has posted up a couple of concept art pieces for the project; a mature retelling of the Red Riding Hood story.

The artwork depicts the title character with an axe and a disposition to use it on some mystical wolves. Again this is just concept artwork for a game that has yet to get the green light but it's clear that McGee still wants to revamp childhood legends. You can check out the other concept art piece after the jump:

GameTap adds Still Life 2 to line-up

The subscription-download hybrid PC game site GameTap has added yet another title to its list of games people can play with one monthly paid subscription. This time the game is Still Life 2, the recently released "M" rated adventure game from publisher Microids. It's a sequel to the 2005 original Still Life which itself was a sequel to a previous 2003 released adventure game Post Mortem.

Still hanging around GameTap's free game selection this week is the American McGee's Grimm chapter Master Thief. It will stay in the free section of the game site until this coming Thursday where it will be replaced with a currently unannounced game.

GameTap adds Evil Genius; American McGee's Grimm episode is free

GameTap's latest addition to its premium subscription service is Evil Genius, the terrifically campy super-spy villain sim-strategy game that was released in 2004 from the now defunct Elixir Studios. As we reported earlier this year, the rights to the game have been bought by Rebellion and the UK developer is thinking about reviving the game and others it has bought from the former Vivendi Games.

GameTap has also freed up one of the chapters of the episodic action game American McGee's Grimm. The episode, Master Thief, was a Halloween-themed chapter in the series when it was first released and in honor of the holiday GameTap is making it available for everyone to play for free for the next two weeks.

Final American McGee's Grimm episode released on GameTap

It's the end of an era over at Gametap as the PC game download service has released the final two episodes of American McGee's Grimm on their site. The episodic series of game that take twisted views of classic fairy tales ends with their version of Snow White. This will likely be the last original game that Gametap releases on their site. Since the purchase of the service by Metaboli last fall its executives have stated they have no interest in continuing that kind of service.

In related news, Gametap has put up Eidos' classic action-RPG Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition as a free game to play for the next week. In addition they have added the THQ off-road racing game MX vs. ATV Unleashed to its list of premium games.

Gametap resumes American McGee's Grimm series

It's been a rough couple of weeks for the revamped Gametap PC download service. Gametap users have experienced lots of bugs and performance issues since the relaunch a couple of weeks ago. As a result, the regular Thursday additions of new games to the service have been suspended.

Today the updates have returned to normal with the release of the latest installment of the episodic American McGee's Grimm series. This week's installment is titled The Adventures of Thumbling. Unfortunately it seems Gametap has done away with the series's pattern of offering each episode for free for its first 24 hours. Added to the free game list for one week is Thief, the first game in Eidos' sneaker shooter series. Finally the THQ published military tactical shooter Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers has been added to the game's premium list (with the caveat that the game's multiplayer features are no longer supported).

Gametap relaunch delayed

Gametap users who have been awaiting the revamp and relaunch of the gaming download service will have to wait a little longer. The relaunch was due to happen this week but the service's official blog site is now saying the "big, internal migration is taking a little longer than we had planned." While there's no specifics on when the revamp will go live the new hardware should be in place in "a couple more days."

Because of the delay there will be no new games added to the Gametap library this week. That includes the previously planned new episode of American McGee's Grimm. However the previous free game special Just Cause will remain free to play for another week.

Sleeping Beauty becomes the latest entry for American McGee's Grimm

Gametap's regular Thursday game update has the latest entry in the episodic American McGee's Grimm series. This time the game takes on the legend of Sleeping Beauty and according to GameTap, "A unique twist midway through makes Sleeping Beauty the longest and most involved of Grimm's 23 episodes." As usual you can play this chapter for free via Gametap until Friday.

Also available for free is Just Cause, the open world action game from Avalanche Entertainment and Eidos. The game will actually be made available to play for free for two weeks instead of just the one. That's due to the fact that GameTap is getting ready for its big makeover next week.

Pinocchio becomes latest American McGee's Grimm episode

GameTap's regular Thursday update brings us the latest entry in the episodic American McGee's Grimm series. This time it's the classic fable Pinocchio that gets the treatment in the weird fairy tale series. As with all of the previous entries this new chapter is free to play for its first 24 hours.

Also added as a free game on GameTap is Rogue Trooper. Based on the UK comic book character, this sci-fi action game from 2006 is from developer Rebellion and publisher Eidos and will remain free to play on the service until March 12. In addition, Fable: The Lost Chapters has been added to GameTap's premium service.

New American McGee's Grimm episode released on Gametap

The Gametap digital download service continues to release new chapters of its episodic game series American McGee's Grimm. Today the latest episode is released, based on the Mulan legend, as as with previous releases this new chapter is free to play for the next 24 hours. As you may know the development team behind the game, Spicy Horse, is now working on their next project which is a new title in the American McGee's Alice series for publisher EA.

Gametap has also put one of their library tites into the "free-to-play" section until March 5. This time it's Sacred Gold, the 2004 fantasy action-RPG and its expansion pack from developer Ascaron Entertainment. Of course Ascaron has already released a ful sequel, Sacred 2, that was released for the PC back in October. In addition Gametap has returned a number of game titles to their free section, including Psychonauts, Metal Slug and Tomb Raider: Legend. They won't stay free forever as Gametap plans to rotate games in and out of the free section once a month.

New American McGee's Grimm episode on Gametap today

It's Thursday and that means Gametap has another new episode from American McGee's Grimm ready to go. This installment of the action series is based on Jack and the Beanstalk and like previous releases in the series Gametap will make the game available to play for 24 hours.

In addition to the latest Grimm episode, Gametap has given gamers a way to play the Mucho Macho Edition of Tropico for free until Feb. 26. The island dictator sim game series from the now defunct Poptop Software will soon be getting a new entry, Tropico 3, from Kalypso Media later this year
