Line of Defense announced

The latest game from the mind of Derek Smart and his 3000 AD development team has just been announced. It's called Line of Defense and like a previous 3000 AD game All Aspect Warfare it's a sci-fi action MMO game set in the far future that combines planetary conflict with space battles in orbit above planets.

The game is being described as a pure Player Vs Player game (no single player quests here) as players fight on one of two factions. Each faction is trying to take control of territories on various planets. Players will gain experiencen and access to weapons as well as land and air vehicles. While 3000 AD is developing the game, Quest Online is handling things like the game's billing, server database and other support features (Quest Online is the developer of the fantasy MMO Alganon which had its development taken over by Smart in 2010). Line of Defense is currently scheduled for release by the end of 2011.

All Aspect Warfare free expansion announced

3000AD released two sci-fi action games earlier this year via download and now the indie developer has announced that one of them, the sci-fi combat shooter All Aspect Warfare, will be getting a free expansion pack. The expansion, titled Escape From LV-115, is due for release sometime in the first quarter of 2010.

The expansion pack will continue the single player storyline from the main game as its cast of characters have to get off the planet of LV-115 (hence the title). Of course it won't be as easy as just taking a ship and lifting off. You can also expect more multiplayer deathmatch missions in both planetary and space settings around LV-115.

Galactic Command teaser site up; more info coming October 15?

Indie game developer 3000AD recently released two downloable sci-fi action games, All Aspect Warfare and Angle of Attack. Now comes word that the developer has set up a pretty bare bones teaser site for their next project, Galactic Command. Apparently more info is coming on October 15 and the teaser site states that "The MMO Competition will have a lot to worry about. We return to our playground."

3000AD and its founder Derek Smart are perhaps best known for their Battlecruiser space simulation series that later evolved into the Universal Combat series. Presumably Galactic Command is some kind of space-based MMO, at least based on the teaser message.

3000AD comes to Steam with two upcoming action games

3000AD, the development studio headed up by the always lively (and sometime controversial) Derek Smart, has been working on two upcoming downloadable titles. Today 3000AD announced that both sci-ti themed games (the land-based action shooter All Aspect Warfare and the flying action game Angle of Attack) are now available for pre-order via Steam with both games due out on August 10. (there's no word yet if any of 3000AD's older games will be made available for Steam at some point).

People who pre-order either game via Steam will get 10 percent off their normal price. If you decide to order both you get 20 percent off the total bundle price. In his new developer blog, Smart states that they plans to do updates for the games after their release to include Steamworks features like stats tracking achievements and the like. He also writes about the trials and troubles about getting games on download services like Steam, Direct2Drive and others. There's also some interesting observations on the PC game retail business.

A patch is also available for the demo, which fixes a number of bugs and gameplay issue. Demo features and system requirements are shown after the jump.

Note: The demo is Byteshield protected but the user (aawdemo) and password (aawdemo) are already injected into the program. Just follow the instructions in the GUI to get it running.

3000AD reveals All Aspect Warfare

The man behind the Battlecruiser/Universal Combat series of space sims, Derek Smart, is going in a different direction for his next game. Smart and his developer, 3000AD, have just announced plans to publisher All Aspect Warfare. This title combines sci-fi first/third person shooter gameplay with high flying vehicle action.

The game takes place on an alien planet where a group of elite space marines have crash landed. The problem? The planet has a massive nuclear device that is counting down to detonation. The marines have to find a way to fight through enemy lines on the planet in order to escape before the planet goes "BOOM"! All Aspect Warfare is supposed to have six character classes, over 20 weapons, 30 player controlled units and both a branching single player campaign and multiplayer modes. The game is due out in the first half of 2009.
