Aliens Vs Predator Classic 2000 on sale at Steam for $1.99

You can't get much cheaper than this week's Midweek Madness sale over at the Steam PC game download service. From now until Thursday you can purchase the original Aliens Vs Predator shooter from developer Rebellion for just $1.99. This is the game that is now known as Aliens Versus Predator Classic 2000.

Just a reminder; this game was first released back in 1999 by the now defunct Fox Interactive. This version of the game contains the original title plus the content that was added to the game via the 2000 expansion pack. Of course Rebellion recently returned to the AVP game franchise with Sega's February released title.

Aliens Vs Predator Classic 2000 gets promised multiplayer patch

Developer Rebellion released their original Aliens Vs Predator PC game a few weeks ago. While the new Steam-delivered version was single player only they promised to bring the game's multiplayer features in a free patch. Now that patch is now available via Steam's automatic updating system.

This update is considered a beta so if you want to try out the multiplayer features in the game please be aware there will likely be some issues that crop up. Rebellion has already stated in the release notes that the original AVP won't be supporting or providing any dedicated servers. However you can count on those features to be in their upcoming AVP game with publisher Sega when it's released later on February.

Get free game when ordering Aliens Vs Predator on Steam

In addition to updating the retro game Aliens Vs Predator Classic 2000, Steam has just given folks a chance to pre-order the new Aliens Vs Predator game from developer Rebellion and publisher Sega. However there's a nice bonus when you get the game from Steam. You will also get a free older game from Sega, Universe at War: Earth Assault.

This 2007 released sci-fi RTS game comes from developer Petroglyph and is one of the very few PC games that allows for cross-platform multiplayer gaming with its Xbox 360 counterpart with Games For Windows Live. Petroglyph is currently working on the upcoming free-to-play game Mytheon.

Aliens Vs Predator Classic 2000 gets updated with new features

While we are still waiting on the promised multiplayer update, developer Rebellion has now issued a new update for their re-release of their first Aliens Vs Predator game, now known as Aliens Vs Predator Classic 2000. The update, issued automatically via Steam, has added a true widescreen resolution mode to the game for the first time.

The update also adds a way to let players have unlimited saves to the game instead of just using the title's fixed number of save points. You will have to go into the command line and put in the -unlimitedsaves option to activate the save features but it's better than the current set up. There are also some more bug fixes in this latest update.

Aliens Vs Predator Classic 2000 now available via Steam

It looks like things have moved faster than first thought for the release of the original PC Aliens Vs Predator. The game from developer Rebellion, now known as Aliens Vs Predator Classic 2000, is now available via Steam for a mere $4.99. This port contains both the original version of the game (released in 1999) plus content from the Gold version that was released in 2000.

This version also includes music from the game's official soundtrack and has been ported to use the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows. Multiplayer support is not yet available but as we reported earlier Rebellion plans to add multiplayer support via a free patch later.
