In 2010 the mod team behind the Source Engine-based multiplayer mod Age of Chivalry announced plans to launch a commercial version of the game using Epic' UDK tools. Last month (and unnoticed by us until now) the team announced that they have changed the name of the commercial game to Chivalry: Medieval Warfare (perhaps as a wink to a successful "modern" themed shooter series).

Along with the name change comes a new web site with lots of info about the Middle Ages-themed game along with an actual name for the game's development team: Torn Banner Studios. The team has also released a trailer showing some brief in-game footage which you can check out after the jump. There's no word on when Chivalry: Medieval Warfare will be released.

It's been a while since the announcement was made that the Half-Life 2 multiplayer mod Age of Chivalry was going to become a stand alone commercial game using Epic Games' Unreal Development Kit. This week the game's official web site got a screenshot update showing off a couple of the title's levels (Battlegrounds and Stoneshill) and comparing them to the original levels made for the mod.

As you can see above the screenshots show a high level of detail in the art and textures, rivaling even the best from the big game developers. While there's no real word on the game's current status in this update we hope to do an interview with the team in the near future.

We have seen many stand alone commercial games that started out as free mods or total conversions. The latest such news about such a move comes from the mod team behind the popular Half-Life 2 mod Age of Chivalry. The popular mod which has a medieval setting and concentrates on melee combat is now making the more to a stand alone commercial title titled Chivalry: Battle for Agatha.

The stand alone game will use Epic's Unreal Development Kit (the non-source code version of Unreal Engine 3) with the team promising "More weapons. A more fluid movement system. Character customization" and other new features. This also mean there won't be any more updates to the Half-Life 2 mod version with the team saying, "Age of Chivalry has been hindered by some limitations inherent in Source and would result in not being able to deliver that content the way we want to." There's no word on when Chivalry: Age of Agatha will be released. You can check out a trailer for the game after the jump:
