Team17 co-founder Martyn Brown departs developer

The co-founder of the long running UK-based game developer Team17, Martyn Brown, has decided to leave the company he helped to create over 20 years ago. Brown first announced his departure on his Facebook page, VG247.com later chatted with Brown who was vague on his reasons for leaving Team17, saying only that it was "time" for him to depart. He added that he had a good idea of what he would do next but he "can't talk about it yet".

Brown helped develop the long running Worms series of turn-based strategy games for Team17 which started in 1995 and have had countless entries across tons of different platforms, including the PC. It also developed the Alien Breed series of top down sci-fi shooters. In 2010 Team17 announced that it was abandoning traditional retail game publishing to work exclusively on digital download-based games. So far it has released Worms Reloaded and the Alien Breed trilogy of games for the PC via Steam.

Worms Reloaded trailer explodes, shoots, and maims

Worms is all about hyper-violence done in a goofy, cartoony style, and Worms Reloaded is no exception. While there has been a number of trailers for the newest title in the Worms series, not a whole lot of them have shows all the carnage you can cause with an arsenal of grenades and old ladies at your fingertips. Thankfully, this trailer provides you with all the footage of worms-o-worms violence you could want, helpfully arranged into a montage of earthworm-related death. While it'll hardly convert new players, it's definitely nostalgic to those that had good times with Worms when the series was fresh.

Worms Reloaded coming to Steam August 26

After several months of hints, developer Team17 has finally announced that Worms Reloaded, the latest game in their long running turn-based strategy series, will be released on Steam on August 26. The game itself will feature a campaign mode with 35 missions plus 30 more missions in the more advanced Warzone campaign. It will also feature multiplayer for up to four players and a landscape editor to create your own levels. Of course you can also expect Steamworks features such as achievements, leaderboards and more,

Steam is offering pre-orders a 10 percent discount off Worms Reloaded's $19.99 price along with a couple of extra in-game bonus items (the x6 Worms Hats and the x10 Forts).

April Fools: Worms - Crawl of Duty announced

UK-based developer Team 17 is staying busy with a number of projects, including a new PC installment of their Worms franchise called Worms Reloaded. However that's not the only Worms game they might be working on. Their Facebook page has some screenshots posted on this April Fools Day for Worms: Crawl of Duty.

It looks to be Team 17's first foray into the first person shooter genre. Even though all we have to go is screenshots it looks like it will be an historically accurate retelling of worms fighting in World War II. There's no word yet on a release date but if we were betting men we would guess this game is a long, long way from being done.

Worms Reloaded beta sign-ups begin Monday

Earlier this year Team 17 announced plans to release Worms Reloaded, an "extended" PC version of their previous Xbox Live Arcade turn-based strategy game Worms Armageddon. Now Team 17 is looking for some folks to beta test Worms Reloaded. Their Steam Community web site seems to be the place to get all of the details.

The info on how to get into the beta will be revealed on Monday but it sounds like there will be a very limited amount of beta spots open. Of course we are still awaiting for Team 17 to release their other announced game, the top down shooter Alien Breed Evolution, via Steam.

Worms Reloaded announced; coming to Steam

Team 17's recent move to begin self publishing games will soon be kicking into high gear soon on the PC. The UK developer has already announced that their top down sci-fi shooter Alien Breed Evolution will be released on Steam sometime this quarter. They have also announced (via their Facebook page) that a PC port of their Xbox Live Arcade game Worms 2 Armageddon is also coming to Steam.

Now the developer's Twitter page has posted word of their third PC game coming via Steam. Team 17's founder Martyn Brown posted up word that "...a new edition of 2D Worms for PC! "Worms Reloaded" is coming soon via Steam. Details & features to follow..." This sounds like it may be a remake of an earlier Worms game. We hope to learn more in the near future.

Boot Disk: Worms Armageddon

Sometimes you just need to sit down, slide a floppy into your A: drive, and enjoy gaming retro style. We know this all too well! That's why we have a list of the best and brightest from days long gone. These are some of our favorite games of all time, and we're sure that you'll love them as much as we do, if not more. Welcome to Boot Disk, and enjoy the retro ride!

Worms is a series whose history is not exactly the a great one. The transition of Worms from 2D to 3D was an interesting experiment, but it ultimately failed to garner interest or be as polished as the 2D Worms games. Team 17 took note of this, and began remaking their old Worms games for the Xbox Live platform. Worms HD and Worms 2: Armageddon are some of the best multiplayer games on the system, but the plain fact is that these games are based on ones that existed long before on another platform. In fact, with Worms 2: Armageddon coming out on PC through Steam, we figured it would be a good time to reflect on quite possibly the best artillery game ever made. Worms Armageddon is that game, and it still stands the test of time as being the best of the series.

Destroy the garden in Hedgewars

Worms and Scorched Earth are legendary. There's no doubt about it. Those two games almost single-handedly spawned the artillery genre of game, which was really just an extension of what the military was doing with computers at the time. However, there hasn't been a real, good freeware remake of Worms. At least until now. Hedgewars, which is up to version 0.9.11, is a freeware artillery game that looks and plays a lot like Worms. That's a good thing.

Hedgewars, much like all artillery games, revolves around blasting your opponents away using an arsenal of weapons while accounting for the wind, trajectory, explosion radius, and several other factors. The style is very similar to Worms, as are the physics, so you'll definitely feel some pangs of familiarity. Features planned for the future include a ranking system that gives multiplayer XP based on the amount of kills done. Netplay is already integrated, and it runs natively on Linux, Mac, and Windows.

Did we mention it's a lot like Worms?
