Publisher THQ's long standing Warhammer 40,000 game license will apparently continue for a while longer. The company has announced that it has entered into an agreement with Games Workshop for an extension of its license to make PC and other games based on the classic sci-fi war game series. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed nor was the length of the newly extended agreement.

THQ has released a number of Warhammer 40,000 games over the years including the Dawn of War RTS game series from developer Relic. Relic is working on the third person action game Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine for release this summer and we are still awaiting the long-in-development MMO Warhammer 40,000 Dark Millennium Online from developer Vigil Games.

Dawn of War 2: Retribution is tantalizingly close to release, and like most games, that means it's time for a cinematic trailer to get the excitement up. In this case, it's a rather disjointed trailer that flickers between the different races of the Warhammer 40k world. Our personal favorites are the Chaos and Imperial Guard, mostly for that ass-kicking commissar. There's nothing quite like a man in uniform, as the saying goes. Still, if you want something besides some eye candy to tide you over, you'd best look elsewhere.

The Warhammer 40,000 universe is hardly known for its child-like sensibilities, so it's no wonder that the upcoming Space Marine is so gory. It's Relic's only title that it's a strategy game of some kind, and seems to draw more from God of War than from Command and Conquer. This new trailer shows off some of the things we can expect from such an extreme action game, and we're intrigued. Tackling someone to curb stomp them, cutting people apart with chainswords, and blasting the limbs off of Orks seems to be the name of the game, which makes this a very faithful rendition. It's a short trailer, but a sweet one.

The Warhammer 40,000 MMO has had a media black-out for quite a while now. No information has been released on playable races, vehicle usage,what combat actually entails, or the actual meat of the MMO at all. however, in their demonstration at Gamescom, THQ decided to break out their new MMO and showcase it to the audience. The result is this first trailer, which reveals a good bit about the game proper.

The first playable race, which is no surprise to anyone at all, is the Imperium of Man. This race includes the three subfactions (according to the tabletop game) of the Adeptus Mechanicus (Techpriests), Imperial Guard, and Adeptus Astartes (Space Marines). Gameplay of all three classes was shown, as well as some of the mechanics revolving around the battlefield, and it's certainly a stunning-looking game. This is one of the few trailers to come from Gamescom that genuinely has us trembling with excitement.

After months of speculation and even some fan petitions, publisher THQ finally caved in and announced today that the upcoming third person action game Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine would indeed be released for the PC. The game, developed by Relic Entertainment, was first announced back in May 2009 as a console only title.

Due for release in early 2011, the game is the latest title from Relic and THQ based on the Games Workshop table top war game series. It will feature players controlling a Space Marine as he attempts to defend a imperial Forge World against a massive Ork invasion with both ranged and, as you can see above, melee weapons.

In this video, Relic Entertainment provides a brief introduction to the newly released Last Stand multiplayer mode in Dawn of War 2. In it, three players come together and try to last for as long as they can against waves on oncoming enemies. The mode also has a few special surprises, including a race that has never been seen before in Dawn of War 2. Those waiting for the Dawn of War 2 mini-expansion, your wait is over. The new update, affectionately titled There Is Only War, includes eight new multiplayer maps, new Observer and Referee features, a fully featured new map editor, new badges and colors, vast balancing changes, and many other changes to the game. You can read the patch notes on just what was added and changed on the Relic community blog.

To celebrate the release of the update, all Relic-developed games on Steam are now 50% off for this weekend only. This means that both the Company of Heroes and Dawn of War series are half off. You can get them in a pack or individually, your choice. Dawn of War 2 is also half off, and at $25, that's an absolute steal. It's a shame that the Homeworld series isn't on Steam, as that would be a great rounder to the deal.

ThQ has released a single player demo for the role-playing/real-time strategy hybrid game, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 2. The demo places gamers in the role of elite Space Marines engaged in furious combat across the dark recesses of space, battling the heretic Eldar, the pillaging Orks, and the ravaging Tyranid threats.

Owners of the the full game can enjoy the recently released 1.2.1 patch (available only through Steam), which brings a list of balance changes and enhancements to the game. Continue reading after the jump for the full list of changes.

Warhammer 40k strategy fans new territory with Dawn of War 2. This time, instead of focusing on traditional real-time strategy action, the sequel combines tactical strategy with role-playing aspects. Although familiar factions like the Space Marines, Eldar, and Orks return along with a new debuting Tyranid species, this game is almost completely unlike its predecessor and its expansions.
