Recettear posts

US version of Recettear sells over 100,000 units in four months

A Japanese action-RPG about selling and maintaining an item shop in a fantasy world? That doesn't sound like a recipe for a game that would sell many copies. Yet Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale from developer EasyGameStation has done exactly that. Since its US importer , Carpe Fulgur, released the game on our shores last September, the game has sold over 100,000 copies via digital download, according to a new blog post by the head of Carpe Fulgur.

So what does this sales success mean? It might mean that the game could get an English voice over patch although that is not certain. However it definitely means that Carpe Fulgur is in a solid financial position. According to the blog post, "We'vie already gotten comments from developers in Japan to the effect of "we've heard of you and we'd like to work with you'" In the meantime the company plans to release another action-RPG title from EasyGameStation, titled Chantelise.

Recettear an early sales success on PC game download services

It's a game that didn't get a ton of media coverage before it was released but the Japanese RPG import game Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale has started to become a sleeper sales success. The game's US importer, Carpe Fulgur, has announced that in its first four weeks on sale it has racked up a total of 26,000 unit sales.

Those sales come from PC game download services like Steam, Impulse and Direct2Drive and while the numbers may not sound like a lot they are huge considering the game hasn't gotten a lot of pre-release hype. Carpe Fulgur's blog site even thanks the game's pirates, some of whom have apparently decided to buy the game after playing it. Because of Recettear's success, the company states, "We hope to announce a couple of very exciting projects in the near future, and we've begun to look at a number of future potential titles for localization."

R.U.S.E. - Developer Eugen Systems and publisher Ubisoft try out something different in the RTS genre with this World War II themed game that uses things like dummy units and other features to keep his or her opponent guessing about its next move. This game is also one of the first to natively support Microsoft's Windows 7 multi-platform touch-screen features in order to control your units.
