Peter-Jackson posts

Peter Jackson says he enjoyes Modern Warfare 2 more than movies

When Peter Jackson, the writer-director of The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, says in a new interview that he's enjoying playing games like Modern Warfare 2 "more than I am enjoying films at the moment" you know that he's a serious gamer. In a new interview with Aint It Cool News, Jackson says games, "are using a lot of the film techniques now, especially the cinematic areas or those little movie things. "

Of course, Jackson was supposed to produce a Halo movie as well as some kind of Halo game but both projects fell apart. He's currently working on two gaming projects that are connected to movies. One is a Tintin game that was announced by Ubisoft last summer and the other is a Hobbit game based on the upcoming prequel to the Lord of the Rings. He also says, "I think some of the ideas I've got I'd rather do them as a stand alone game, because that world is getting more and more interesting. "

A District 9 game?

Without a doubt one of the best movies released in 2009 was District 9. The sci-fi action movie with more than a little allegory was produced by Peter Jackson and co-written and directed by Neill Blomkamp after their plan to adapt Halo to movies fell apart.

But Blomkamp admits in a recent Lost Angeles Times interview that, "I play a lot of video games." He also admits to thinking about making a game based on District 9 although he adds, "The idea of "District 9" as a video game stresses me out a little bit because games based on movies rarely work." While such a game is not yet in the works, he says, "I think a virtual environment of the slums of Soweto is an appealing idea to me. The weapons are cool, too." Indeed. Anyone who has seen the movie can attest to that.

E3 2009: Ubisoft announces plans for game based on Tintin movie

One of the world's best known comic book characters is about to be made into a movie and that movie is also being adapted into a game. During their E3 2009 press conference Ubisoft announced plans to adapt Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn, based on the classic character created by the late Herge'.

The movie will be released in late 2011 and will be one of those motion-capture CGI films (like the Polar Express). The movie itself will be directed by Steven Spielberg. Peter Jackson is a producer and his WETA digital effects unit is handling the effects. It's currently unknown what platforms the game will appear on but we will assume at this point that Ubisot will port the game to the PC when it also launches in 2011.
