This Week In PC Games: August 31-September 6

The fall PC game release season begins this week with three titles; a super hero MMO, a sci-fi multiplayer shooter and an a cute looking action games from the creators of, oddly enough, the Hitman games.

Champions Online: Cryptic Studios' long awaited next super hero MMO (based on the long running pen-and-paper RPG series, officially launches today. The series blends in a lot of what Cryptic created for City of Heroes (the extensive character creation tool, the fast action) with a bigger variety of locations and a more "cartoony" art style.

Mini Ninjas trailer keeps its distance with Kunoichi

The newest Mini Ninjas trailer introduces the game's final character, Kunoichi, who uses a spear to keep enemies out of arm's reach. With her tenacious spirit, she was the first one sent to investigate a disturbance in the balance of nature and mysteriously disappeared. Players will have a chance to rescue Konoichi, and in doing so, will have be able to call upon her skills in combat. Mini Ninjas is scheduled to release for the PC and console systems on September 8th. The demo can be downloaded here.

"Young Kunoichi appeared at the Mini Ninjas dojo small and feminine, but very strong. She was not quick to become close to people, and so chose the spear to be her weapon of choice, doing battle at a distance. She soon mastered her weapon, and in her time at the dojo, forged friendships with her fellow mini ninjas, though she could at times, still be a bit intimidating to her mates, particularly big hearted Futo."

The Big PC Games for Fall 2009 - Part One

In just a few days, the game industry as a whole enters a period in time that is extremely important to them, at least as it pertains to their wallets. From September to the end of the year the games industry generates well over half of their total yearly revenues. This year is a little different than most, however. Game publishers have moved quite a few of their major titles out of the fall-holiday time period to the first quarter of 2010 or later. The reason? They are not sure if a flood of even highly anticipated games will do well in this current economy.

That said there are still quite a lot of major PC games that will be coming down the pike for gamers to check out in the next few months. In the first part of a three part series, Big Download goes over all of the major games slated for release this fall and gives a little opinion on how well they might do in terms of sales. Keep in mind that the release dates for the games in our series is current to the best of our knowledge and they can, and frequently do, change.

Mini Ninjas PC demo due out on Wednesday

Those cute and small ninjas. How deadly can they really be? We will soon find out as publisher Eidos plans to release a PC demo of their upcoming action game Mini Ninjas. The demo is due for release on Wednesday (naturally we will have it available on Big Download).

The both the demo and the full game come from Hitman's creators at developer Io Interactive. The demo will have the small but fiesty ninjas Hiro, Futo and Suzume go on a quest to "to restore harmony to a world on the brink of chaos." Wow. Sounds like pretty heady stuff for such small ninjas. The full game is due for release on September 8.

Tora speeds into Mini Ninjas trailer

Tora is clearly the wildest of the Mini Ninjas crew, since he believes he's a tiger and has honed his speed and stealth skills to fit that mentality. He also crafted himself claws to go along with the role. However, not even all that was enough to save him, since he's one of the missing ninjas players are sent to rescue in Mini Ninjas. The game is scheduled to release on September 8th.
