Mass Effect 2 and StarCraft 2 winners in 2011 Interactive Achievement Awards

Mass Effect 2 was the winner of the Game of the Year award at the 2011 edition of the Interactive Achievement Awards, held last night at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas. BioWare's sci-fi RPG sequel also won in the catagories of Outstanding Achievement in Story and RPG/MMO Game of the Year.

Blizzard's RTS sequel StarCraft II also picked up a couple of awards last night for Outstanding Achievement in Online Gameplay and Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year. FIFA 2011 also won for Sports Game of the Year. All of the other awards, sadly, were won by console exclusive game titles. The ceremonies will be shown on the G4 cable TV network this Saturday at 4 pm Eastern Time.

2011 Interactive Achievement Awards nominees announced

It's awards season and we are not just talking about the movie industry. Today the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for its annual Interactive Achievement Awards. The winners, which are voted on by members of the game industry, will be held as part of the DICE Summit in Las Vegas on February 10. As we previously reported, comedian and actor Jay Mohr will return as its host and the G4 cable TV network will provide live streaming of the awards ceremony on its web site and show an edited version on the network itself on February 12.

Call of Duty Black Ops and Mass Effect 2 got the most nomination for a game released on the PC platform with five nods each including Game of the Year. StarCraft II got four nominations including one for Strategy/Simulation game of the year which it shared with Civilization V, Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II Chaos Rising and Supreme Commander 2. G4 cable TV network to broadcast 2011 Interactive Achievement Awards

One of the major game industry awards has found a new TV network to broadcast the event. The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has announced that it has partnered with the G4 cable TV network to broadcast the 2011 edition of its Interactive Achievement Awards. The awards had been shown for the past two years on the IFC cable TV network.

This year's award ceremony will be held on February 10 during the AIAS's annual DICE Summit in Las Vegas. Actor and comedian Jay Mohr will be the host of the ceremony for the sixth year in a row. G4 will stream the awards ceremony live in its entirely on its G4TV.com web site along with online content from the DICE Summit session and its Indie Game Challenge. G4 will broadcast the awards on its network on February 12 at 4 pm Eastern time.

Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences president departs; replacement named

The console-PC game organization The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has a new leader today. The group, which sponsors the annual DICE Summit and the Interactive Achievement Awards has announced that its long time president Joseph Olin has decided to leave the AIAS "to pursue new opportunities". Olin has been the head of the organization since 2004.

The AIAS has already announced Olin's replacement with Martin Rae taking over the president's position. He had held a number of executive and CEO positions at various game and game-related companies. Prior to his new gig Rae was the CEO of Sunleaf Studios. Olin will work with Rae and the rest of the AIAS's board through the end of the year.

In related news registration for the 2011 DICE Summit has now started. This year's summit will be held once again in Las Vega on February 9-11.

PC games are a minor part of Interactive Achievement Award 2010 winners

Last night the 13th annual Interactive Achievement Awards were given out during the DICE Summit in Las Vegas. This year's awards were dominated by the PS3 exclusive game Uncharted 2 which won a whopping 10 awards. As a result, games that were released for the PC didn't get a lot of award winning love this year.

Those that did include Dragon Age: Origins for Role-Playing/Massively Multiplayer Game of the Year, Street Fighter IV for Fighting Game of the Year, the browser-based Farmville for Social Networking Game of the Year and FIFA Soccer 10 for Sports Game of the Year. Batman: Arkham Asylum won for Outstanding Achievement in Game Design, Outstanding Achievement in Story (Adapted) and Outstanding Character Performance (for Mark Hammil's Joker). Finally Modern Warfare 2 won for Action Game of the Year and Outstanding Achievement in Online Game Play.

2010 Interactive Achievement Awards ceremony to be streamed on IFC.com

This week marks the launch of the annual high end game developers event the DICE Summit in Las Vegas. It's supposed to be a very posh affair but the folks running the event at the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences will give those of us a chance to see at least part of the event this week with the help of the IFC cable channel.

The Interactive Achievement Awards, held during DICE, will be streamed live on the IFC.com web site starting at 10 pm Eastern time on Thursday. Comedian/actor Jay Mohr will host the event for the fifth time. The IFC cable channel will broadcast a half-hour special with highlights of the ceremony on February 26 at 10 pm Eastern Time.

The Interactive Achievement Awards won't be the only awards to be given out during the DICE Summit this year. The grand prize winners of Epic Games' latest Make Something Unreal mod contest will also be revealed during the event. Also the Indie Game Challenge will give out its two $1 million prizes for the best professional and non-professional independent games.

2010 Interactive Achievement Awards finalists announced

Just a couple of days after the announcement of the Game Developers Choice Awards nominees, the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has revealed their nominees for their 2010 Interactive Achievement Awards. The Game of the Year award nominees are pretty familiar with Batman: Arkham Asylum, Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age Origins and Assassin's Creed 2 among the games in that category.

The awards will be given out at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas on February 18. Actor and comedian Jay Mohr will once again be the host of the awards; it's his fifth time as the master of ceremonies for the event. You can check out the entire list of categories and nominees right here.

DICE Summit announces new speakers for 2010 edition


Even though we have a few more weeks before 2009 ends, events in 2010 are prepping for their new editions. The DICE Summit, the high-end game development conference, have announced the first speakers for the Las Vegas-based event. The conference will be held from February 17-19, 2010 at the Red Rock Resort.

Among the speakers announced so far is Matias Myllrinne, the president of Remedy Entertainment, and Steve Perlman, the CEO of the streaming gaming company OnLive. In addition to speeches, panels, and the annual Interactive Achievement Awards (hosted for the fifth year in a row by comedian Jay Mohr), the DICE Summit will also announce the winners of the $100,000 Indie Games Challenge.

Left 4 Dead wins big 2009 Interactive Achievement Awards


Valve's zombie co-op themed shooter Left 4 Dead continues to bring in the awards. Last night at the DICE Summit it was named as the Best Computer Game of 2008 during the 12th annual Interactive Achievement Awards. The game also won for Outstanding Achievement in Online Game Play.

Some of the other PC games that won their categories this year include Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 (Strategy/Simulation Game of of the Year), World of Goo (Outstanding Achievement in Game Design), Fallout 3 (Role-Playing Game of the Year) and World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King (Massively Multiplayer Game of the Year). Interactive Achievement Awards to be shown on IFC cable TV network


If you always wanted to see what the Interactive Achievement Awards were all about but couldn't afford to go to Las Vegas to attend the event, the event will be coming to you soon. Today the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences announced it has struck a deal with the IFC (Indepdendent Film Channel) cable TV network. IFC will show a half-hour version of the awards ceremony sometime in April.

A couple of years ago the AIAS inked a deal with Dick Clark Productions to broadcast the award ceremony but apparently that deal fell through. The awards will be held during the DICE Summit in Vegas on Feb. 19. You can check out the nominees for the various catagories right here.
