Sanctum of Slime trailer calls in brand new Ghostbusters

Sanctum of Slime has finally dropped into our laps, and while we're not sure how good it will be, we can be sure that it's going to be a Ghostbusters game! This trailer shows in-game footage, a cutscene or two, and brags about the arcade-influenced mechanics. It's not particularly exciting (unless you have plenty of nostalgia for Ghostbusters), but it's not too bad either.

This Week In PC Games: March 21-27

It's a huge week for PC gaming fans as a ton of major titles are planned for release in the next seven days. The week includes the latest title in the acclaimed sci-fi shooter series, a spin-off of one of PC's best selling franchises, a PC port of 2010's best console game and the latest game in the Lego series.

Crysis 2 - Crytek's sci-fi shooter series comes back for its third stand alone game (Crysis and Crysis Warhead were released first) as the man in the Nanosuit fights off an alien invasion in the urban jungle on Manhattan Island. It's also the first game that will use Crytek's CryEngine 3.

Sanctum of Slime trailer overpowers some ghosts

While this Sanctum of Slime trailer purports to be a developer diary, it's more of a co-op trailer. It features a developer voice-over hyping up the multiplayer features of the game and the various enemies without involving any in-depth discussion. Good gameplay footage and some information we haven't seen before, but not exactly what we'd call a "developer diary." Oh well. Those looking forward to the arcade-like Sanctum of Slime should definitely watch this trailer, but it certainly won't convert any newcomers.

Ghostbusters Sanctum Of Slime dev diary video gets to the basics

Ghostbusters Sanctum of Slime is due for release via download later this month from publisher Atari. The company released its first dev diary trailer for the game this week that goes over the basic storyline for the movie-based action game.

As you will see in the trailer above, this new game focuses on a new team of Ghostbusters fighting off a huge supernatural menace. However the game will features\ characters and locations from the Ghostbusters movies while also having the new rookie team using their proton packs on various supernatural entities. The game is due for release for the PC and other platforms on March 23.

The Ghostbusters are once again ready to put on their proton packs and start trapping some spirits. Atari announced today that the downloadable action game Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime will be released via download for the PC on March 23.

While this is the second game that Atari has published that features the famous movie comedy ghost hunting and trapping team this second effort won't have the voices of the movie cast this time. Developed by Behavior Studios, the game features the player as a rookie ghostbuster ready to, well, bust some more New York City ghosts. The top-down action game also features four-player co-op which you can check out in the new trailer after the jump:

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime trailer fights off the spooks

Sanctum of Slime is a shocker. It looks similar to the Ghostbusters arcade game of our youth, but sports vastly improved graphics reminiscent of the big budget title. We are interested! Unfortunately, we're always a bit pessimistic about crossover games, so the developers really need to knock it out of the ballpark with this one. A little more gameplay footage (not cut to ribbons, anyway) would have been fantastic. Still, there's more information to come regarding this new downloadable title, so we'll withold judgement until we see some more convincing (or not so much) gameplay footage.

Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime announced

The Ghostbusters are going to make a trip from the movies to your PC hard drive yet again. USA Today's game blog reports that publisher Atari will release Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime for the PC (via download) and other platforms in the spring of 2011. This will be a sequel to 2009's Ghostbusters game where you will play a new rookie member of the Ghostbusters team.

This sequel gets a new developer in Wanako and will feature four-player co-op gameplay as the Ghostbusters team have to work together to go take out the supernatural spooks including "gigantic bosses". Players will also get to drive the Ecto-3 vehicle in the game. Unfortunately none of the Ghostbusters movie actors like Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd are planned to make appearances in this new game as they did for the 2009 title. PC gamers were disappointed with the port of 2009's Ghostbusters game as it lacked any multiplayer modes, unlike the console versions.

Europeans to finally get PC Ghostbusters in October

Just a few weeks before Atari was due to release Ghostbusters in both the US and in Europe, the publisher unexpectedly sold the European PS3 and PS2 rights to the movie based action game to Sony. That move meant that the other platforms, including the PC port, had to wait their turn in Europe while the Playstation ports got a few months of exclusivity. In the meantime the US got the PC version of the game as planned in mid-June (although without the multiplayer modes that the console version have).

Today Eurogamer reports that the multiplayer-lacking PC version will finally be released over the ocean on October 23 along with all of the other ports of the game. In the meantime, Atari sent out a press release today announcing that the game has sold over 1 million copies in North America since its launch in June. The press release did not break down how many copies of each port were sold.

Atari shows big revenue growth in last quarter

It's "earnings season" for publically traded companies and the first game publisher out of the gates to report their official financial numbers is Atari. Today the publisher formerly known as Infogrames announced that they had generated 54.5 million euros in revenues for the quarter that ended on June 30. That's a 30.1 percent raise compared to the same time period a year ago.

Most of that revenue came from the US thanks to sales of the recent Ghostbusters game and also The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena. Atari's next major new release will be Champions Online, their super hero MMO from developer Cryptic Studios that's due out on September 1. Atari is still saying that Cryptic's other announced MMO, Star Trek Online, is due for release in early 2010.
