New Stargate Resistance patch replaces some character models

The team at the new game developer Dark Orbit Games continue to put in new updates to the TV show based third person multiplayer shooter Stargate Resistance. Today a new patch was released via Steam that are apparently the first of many that will upgrade parts of the game.

This new patch brings higher detailed character models for two of the game's player classes, the SGC Soldier and System Lord Jaffa. There's also a new unlockable outfit for each model in this patch. In addition there's been some new achievements added to the game as well as some tweaks for the game's weapons and recoil animations.

New Stargate Resistance patch adds new "planet"

Last week we reported that the TV show based multiplayer action game Stargate Resistance was now in the hands of new developer Dark Comet Games. Now the developer has issued its first update to the game via Steam and it adds a new "planet" (i.e. map) called Leonops to the title.

In addition to the new map, the update has some bug fixes and changes. It also allows players to get credit for "kill assists" (although not an actual kill score). Players who take on one of the game's healer classes will also get credit in their player score for healing other players.

Stargate Resistance now in Dark Comet Games' hands

The fairly confusing saga surrounding the release of the multiplayer shooter game Stargate Resistance took another turn today as it was revealed that a new game developer, Dark Comet Games, has taken over the continuing development of the title.

In a press release, Dark Comet Games said its company was formed by the original developers of Stargate Resistance under the direction of Firesky. The new company will continue to update the game with a new map and other new content planned for release "in the coming weeks". The game was first announced and released by Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment who later filed for bankruptcy last March. Previously Cheyenne stated the game's development would be moved to a new company called Fresh Start. It's likely Dark Comet Games is simply the final name for Fresh Start.

The press release makes no mention of the status of Stargate Worlds, the MMO game that Cheyenne was developing until it turned its attention to Stargate Resistance.

Stargate Resistance free play weekend underway

Earlier this year Stargate Resistance was released. The downloadable third person multiplayer shooter based on the sci-fi TV franchise has managed to survive the shut down of the game's first developer Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment and has continued to be updated and supported by the aptly named new team Fresh Start Studios. This weekend the developer has opened up the full version of the game for anyone to play.

The free play weekend has already begun and will continue until 2 am Eastern time on Monday. People who decide to purchase the full game during the free weekend will be able to get a DLC update pack for free.

Stargate: Resistance trailer jumps into the fight

The Stargate TV series has seen its share of action, but the franchise will probably see most of the combat come from Stargate: Resistance, an upcoming online third-person shooter based in the Stargate story. The game is scheduled to release on February 10.

"Stargate Resistance is a fast-paced and deadly 3rd person shooter for control of the entire galaxy!

The arrogant System Lords believe they are the true masters of the universe, and have begun a savage campaign to dominate and enslave the known worlds. Stargate Command operatives are the first line of defense against this menace. Small teams of brave agents use the Stargate to travel about the galaxy and parry the thrust of these alien overlords."

Stargate Resistance to be released on February 10 [Update]

Late in 2009, Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment announced plans to release Stargate Resistance, a third person multiplayer action game set in the TV series universe that serves as a side project to their still ongoing work on the MMO Stargate Worlds. Now the developer has officially anounced that Stargate Resistance will be released via download on February 10. Pricing has yet to be announced.

There will be some kind of pre-order announcement soon and it sounds like the game will have some special relationship with the Direct2Drive download service. The developer stated they will offer some exclusive free content if folks purchase the game from Direct2Drive ahead of its release. You can find out more about the game in our recent interview at Big Download.

Update: That Direct2Drive pre-order is now live. The game is being priced at $19.95 and offers extra weapons, emotes and armor for both the Soldier and Goa'uld classes.

Interview: Cheyenne Mountain talks about Stargate Resistance

Fans of the Stargate TV shows have been waiting patiently to get a PC game based on the sci-fi franchise. They have had to deal with the cancellation of one first person shooter and the delays of the MMO Stargate Worlds. However the development team behind the latter title, Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, has decided to move on a new Stargate-themed title, the multiplayer third person shooter Stargate Resistance, while still working on Stargate Worlds.

Big Download got a chance to ask some questions to Kathryn Dutchin, the producer of the game, to find out more about their plans and also get an update on Stargate Worlds.

Stargate Worlds breaks silence with new screenshots

It's been a long time since the development team at Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has posted anything progress reports about their long-in-development MMO Stargate Worlds. However late last week they updated their site with not only a news post but brand new screenshots that show the Unreal Engne 3-based game.

The new screenshots focus on the various amor sets that you can use to equip characters in the game. However, that nugget will apparently have to be it for at least a little while longer. The news post claims that the dev team is working on "additional exciting news we will be revealing very soon."

Malcolm in the Middle actor races for Stargate Worlds . . . seriously

While Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment continues to work on their long-in-development MMO Stargate Worlds, the company has scored a major coup in having an entire racing team show their logo on their car and (as you can see in the picture) the transport trailer.

Even odder, the racing team has former actor Frankie Muniz as one of the drivers. The star of the late Fox sitcom Malcolm in the Middle (still running endlessly in syndication) left the acting business to race cars full time about three years ago. For the 2009 season of the Cooper Tires Atlantic Championship Series, Muniz and his racing partner Simona De Silvestro will have the Stagate Worlds logo displayed and shown to the racing fans that attend the events. The note on the Stargate Worlds' web site says Cheyenne paid no up front money for the sponsorship which is good considering the company's recent financial issues.
