F.E.A.R. 3's release pushed back (again) to June 21

Yet another game originally scheduled for a release in May has now pulled out of that rather crowded month of new game releases. Publisher Warner Bros Interactive has confirmed that its horror-themed shooter F.E.A.R. 3 has suffered another delay and will now be released on June 21. That new release date has also been changed on retailer web sites such as Gamestop.

This is the latest delay for the Day 1 Studios-developed title. It was originally announced as coming out in fall 2010, then pushed back to March 2011 and then to May 24 before today's latest delay announcement.

F.E.A.R. 3 trailer gives us a look back at the story so far

The first two games in the F.E.A.R. series introduced us to the rather interesting mix of horror combined with first person shooter. Since the game series has a fairly extensive back story, this new trailer promoting F.E.A.R. 3 looks back in time to the first two titles created by Monolith.

It's all there: The strange supernatural girl Alma, the psycho mind fanatic Paxton Fettel and the character you played in the first two titles, the super powered soldier The Point Man. It will bring you up to speed before the new game from developer Day 1 Studios is released on May 24.

New F.E.A.R 3 trailer shows off the game's multiplayer modes

F.E.A.R. 3's release date is coming up soon and this week the upcoming horror-themed first person shooter sequel revealed its many multiplayer modes. The new trailer gives you an idea about what these modes are all about.

One of the new multiplayer modes is called Contractions and is basically a survival mode where players have to face off against waves of enemies. By far our favorite mode, in terms of gameplay and title, is F***ing Run (and yes, that's is the actual name) where you have to keep running, shooting enemies ahead of you while avoiding a smoke wall full of death behind you. We will be running to see if F.E.A.R. 3 is good or not on May 24.

FEAR 3 trailer says hello to mother

While the Point Man and Paxton Fettel are brothers, that didn't stop the Point Man from putting a bullet in Fettel's head at the end of FEAR. Still, there are times when one should move on from the past and work together with what was once an enemy, and apparently that time is now for the sons of Alma. This trailer for FEAR 3 may not show anything especially stunning, but what it does do is creep us out. Perhaps it's the excellent sound design, with all its glitches and droning noises. If the trailer is this disturbing, we have high hopes for the game!

Big Download's News Bits & Bytes - March 23

Another busy day in PC game land with lots of release date updates. What will we tell you about tomorrow?

FEAR 3 trailer wonders about the feeling of fratricide

This trailer for FEAR 3 is not particularly informative, but it is certainly dramatic. Set on a helicopter, it shows Paxton Fettel communicating with the Point Man about the Point Man's mission from the first game. To put it in spoiler terms, he wonders what it was like to be on the giving end of fratricide, rather than the rather unpleasant receiving end. A red shockwave then fills the sky and cuts the trailer to black. Nothing particularly special, by it's still a well-created cutscene.

New F.E.A.R. 3 trailer goes over several game features

F.E.A.R. 3 is the upcoming and latest entry in the horror-themed first person shooter series. In the latest trailer for the Day 1 Studios-developed game, members of the development team talk about various aspects of the game.

One is the game's levels and enviroments which will range from small close combat settings to more expansive maps. Another is the game's soundtrack which is being written to tie into the horror situations of the game. Finally the trailer touches on the game's overall setting which is influnced greatly by the powers and abilities of F.E.A.R.'s central character Alma. We should see how all of these elements come together when F.E.A.R. 3 is released sometime in May.

FEAR 3 trailer gets sadistic with Paxton Fettel

Paxton Fettel is one of the most sadistic characters in FEAR, and his return as a playable character in FEAR 3 is intriguing. While we obviously know of the Point Man's main mechanics, Paxton has been mostly unrevealed thus far. This trailer, however, offers a glimpse into all you can do with your sick, blood-red powers. Possession, body explosions, crushing heads, and levitation are all possible, which opens up some twisted (and perhaps morally reprehensible!) paths for the player to take.

F.E.A.R. 3 puts Paxton Fettel in single player campaign

F.E.A.R. 3 is charging up its marketing push in advanced of the horror-themed first person shooter's May release date. Today publisher Warner Bros Interactive announced that the game will let players control Paxton Fettel in the game's single player mode.

While the supernaturally powered Fettel will still be playable in the game's two player co-op mode, developer Day 1 Studios will now allow players to control Fettel all by his lonesome in the game's single player campaign. Fettel will be unlocked in each of the game's single player levels once the player completes each level while playing as the heavily armed Point Man. That should add some replay value to the game as Fettel can use his telekentic abilities to take out or posses enemies.

Feature: The busy, busy month of May (for PC gaming)

For the past few years, PC gamers have usually thought of the month of May as being on the slow side when it comes to new game releases. Indeed in 2010 there were only a few major retail PC game releases during that month; the racing games Split/Second and Blur (both of which turned out to be sales disappointments) and the MMO expansion Age of Conan Rise of the Godslayer.

That isn't the case for May 2011. Indeed there's a boat load of major AAA PC game title that are currently scheduled for release that month. They include the long awaited first person shooter Duke Nukem Forever (May 3) the fantasy RPG The Witcher 2 (May 17) the action-RPG Dungeon Siege 3 (May 31), the sci-fi shooter Brink (May 17) the racing sim Dirt 3 (May 24) and other titles like Red Faction Armageddon, F.E.A.R. 3, and Lego Pirates of the Caribbean, all of which are currently scheduled for release sometime in May but don't yet have a specific release day that month (by the way the release dates in this article are ones that are confirmed by the publishers, not necessarily the dates shown on retail web sites which can be inaccurate). Even more PC games could be announced as being released in May in the coming weeks.

What's even more interesting is that for April there are only one or two major PC games that are currently scheduled to be released (Portal 2 on April 18 for example) and June is also looking pretty empty with Hunted The Demon's Forge the only PC game officially scheduled for release that month (and that game is due out on June 1).

So it begs the question: What is it about the month of May that is causing publishers to pile on with lots of new PC game releases while other months like April or June are at the moment looking relatively empty of new game titles?
