First free issue of Dungeon Siege III online comic goes live

Dark Horse Comics launched its digital comics storefront this week, offering a number of the publisher's comic book titles for sale. The site, which also has an iPhone-iPad app, is also offering select issues of their comics for free. One of them is the first online issue of the comic book tie-in to Dungeon Siege III.

You can check out the 10 page first issue now (free registration required) which sets up the storyline in the upcoming fantasy action-RPG title from developer Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Square Enix. As we have reported before, Dark Horse is also producing a 22 page print comic that's being offered as a pre-order bonus for Wal-Mart shoppers.

Report: Obsidian Entertainment hit with layoffs

RPG game developer Obsidian Entertainment is laying off workers if Twitter pages from current and former team members are to be believed. VG247.com reports that at least two Twitter pages from Obsidian team members state they have been laid off, including one team member who has been at the developer 11 years and survived seven previous layoffs.

Obsidian shipped Fallout New Vegas last year to reportedly solid sales and will release Dungeon Siege III in mid-June. It's currently unknown exactly how many team members have been affected in this new wave of layoffs. We have emailed Obsidian to get more information on these developments.

Dungeon Siege 3 trailer brings forth the flaming archon

Another Dungeon Siege 3 trailer, another character unveiled. In this case, it's the archon known as Anjali. Turning into flame spirits, casting fire magic to wreck foes, and smacking unruly skeletons with a magical staff seem to be her fortes. As always, lots of beautiful in-game footage of the character in action, but little in the way of actually showing how they play. For example, is the transformation like switching stances, or is it a spell learned later on?

Dungeon Siege 3 trailer channels magical forces

Magicians are usually, within canon, the strongest of any character. After all, channeling the powers of the elements is a bit god-like. This trailer for Dungeon Siege 3 unveils the mage character, Reinhart, and he seems suitably powerful. Teleportation, blasting enemies with entropy, and creating natural elements seem to be his particular fortes. Much like the previous character trailers, this one gives a good look at the character from outside the player's perspective. Don't expect to see much more than some slick monster murder.

Dungeon Siege 3 delayed to June 21

The month of May just got a little less busy for new game releases. Publisher Square Enix announced today that it is pushing the release date of the fantasy action-RPG sequel Dungeon Siege III back a few weeks.

Originally scheduled for a May 31 release in the US, the game from developer Obsidian Entertainment will now be coming out on June 21. Europeans will get access to the game a few days earlier on June 17. In a statement, Square Enix's president and CEO Mike Fischer admitted that "the final polish phase has demanded a bit more time than originally planned."

Dungeon Siege III trailer show off the battles of Lucas

He's a man. He's a big man with a big sword and a big shield. He's Lucas and he's one of the characters you will be controlling if you decide to check out Dungeon Siege III, the next game in the fantasy action-RPG series.

The newest trailer for the game shows off Lucas in full fighting action, using his big sword, his big shield and his big magic abilities to take a number of enemies all at once. The game from developer Obsidian Entertainment and publisher Square Enix is still schedule to swing its big virtual self to stores on May 31.

Dungeon Siege 3 trailer blasts enemies with shotguns

Guns are not something you normally see in a fantasy game, but Dungeon Siege 3 has them. Specifically, the character Katarina has them, and she's not afraid to blast her way through hordes of foes. This particular trailer gives a glimpse into her different roles, with the overall feeling being that of a ranger with companion pet. It's a character unveiling, so don't expect much except for some pretty stunning artwork and cool set pieces.

Mass Effect to get third comic book mini-series from Dark Horse

Dark Horse Comics has already released two mini-series based on BioWare's Mass Effect RPG series and it looks like more are coming. Newsarama reports from this weekend's C2E2 comic book convention Dark Horse Comics reps have confirmed that a third Mass Effect comic book mini-series is due out later this year.

Details about the mini-series have yet to be revealed but since Mass Effect 3 is due out late in 2011 its likely that the comic could tie into the storyline for that game. During the panel Dark Horse reps said they would like to do even more game-based comics including perhaps some Dragon Age comics (rival IDW released a Dragon Age mini-series last year)

Dark Horse to create Dungeon Siege III web comic

Dungeon Siege 3 is due out on May 31 but before that happens gamers will get to check out a series of comic books based on the fantasy action-RPG. Square Enix announced this week that three web-based comics will be written by Jeremy Barlow and drawn by artists Iban Coello and Sergio Abad.

Produced by Dark Horse Comics the three Dungeon Siege III web comics will be posted on the game's official web site as well as made available for free via digital download on Dark Horse's digital comics system. You may remember that Walmart will have a printed copy of the Dungeon Siege III comic as its pre-order incentive.
