Deus Ex: Human Revolution trailer prepares for E3 2010

This cinematic trailer for Deus Ex: Human Revolution is probably one of the the best looking videos to release in recent weeks, and it fills in some of the questions introduced by the teaser. Now that it's confirmed that the game will be shown at E3, we're eager to dig up more details before its release in 2011.

New Deus Ex: Human Revolution trailer due out on Friday

It's been a few months since we have heard anything about Deus Ex: Human Revolution (previously known as Deus Ex 3) but it looks like publisher Square Enix is prepping to release a new trailer for the cyberpunk themed action-RPG on Friday. At least that's the rather big hint that's being stated over at the Twitter page of the game's developer Eidos Montreal.

You can see an image from the teaser trailer above and from the looks of it we may be getting another CGI cut scene rather than actual gameplay footage. Hopefully we will get a chance to see the game up close and personal in two weeks during E3 2010.

Deus Ex games on sale on Steam until Thursday

One of the games we want to check out at E3 in two months is Deus Ex: Human Evolution, the third game in the cyberpunk-themed RPG series. If you haven't checked out the first two Deus Ex games, Steam is giving you a chance to download and purchase both for a teeny, tiny amount.

Both the original Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition and its sequel Deus Ex Invisible War are on sale until Thursday on Steam for just $2.50 each. Naturally you can get both for a bundle price of just $5. Made by the now shut down developer Ion Storm Austin under the direction of Warren Spector, they should serve as a nice primer for the release of Deus Ex: Human Evolution from developer Eidos Montreal and publisher Square Enix.

GDC 2010: Deus Ex 3 turns into Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Forget about that game called Deus Ex 3. At GDC 2010, publisher Square Enix debuted the trailer for the newly renamed Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The trailer from IGN, which can be seen after the jump, is unfortunately all pre-rendered CGI but it at least looks like the game will keep its unique cyberpunk art style.

IGN also chatted with Jean-Francois Dugas of the game's developer Eidos Montreal who talked about the new game's time line (its set 25 years before the first Deus Ex game) and other subjects. There's also a Q&A supplied by the publisher that answers some of the questions about the actual trailer (the main character is Adam Jensen who is also your player character i in the game and the city is Detroit. It looks like we will be waiting until E3 in June to perhaps get some actual gameplay time with the title.

Deus Ex 3 teaser image released

Do you liked to be teased? Or do you thing teasing is frustrating and you would rather get to the point? If you feel strongly about the latter, then skip this next news post.

OK. All gone? Very nice.

Square Enix's Eidos Montreal development studio posted up the above image as a teaser for Deus Ex 3, their already long-in-development third title in the cyberpunk-themed action-RPG series. Eidos Montreal's community manager only comment above the above picture? "I can't say a darn thing about this other than people who like to go into details will shortly." Sounds a lot like we may get some GDC 2010 announcements.

Deus Ex 3 to be featured in GDC 2010 lecture

Info about Deus Ex 3 has mostly been kept under lock and key for the most part since it was first announced a couple of years ago. Now it looks like some of the veil behind the upcoming cyberpunk-themed RPG-action game is about to be lifted, courtesy of the Game Developers Conference.

A newly revealed listing on the GDC 2010 web site shows that a lecture on the game will be given on March 11 during the conference. The lecture will be handed by Eidos Montreal's art director Jonathan Jacques-Belletete. He will be talking about "the creative underpinnings behind the unique blend of art style that combines the past, present and future in the next evolution of the Deus Ex franchise." In other words, expect lots of new info about the game to get presented to the GDC attendees. Eidos's new publisher Square Enix has not yet announced a definitive release date for the game.

Feature: 10 PC Games We Wish Were Coming In 2010

Last week we did an extensive look at all of the big PC game titles that are currently scheduled for release this year (at least that's the plan; release dates can and likely will change for many of those titles). But there are also many games that have already been announced are not on our 2010 list. The reason? We just don't think they will ship out before the year is over.

However that's no reason to at least hope against hope. We decided to pick 10 previously announced games that we don't think will be released in the next 12 months but we do wish would make it. Of course, one or two of the titles on this list may actually surprise us and come out by the end of 2010. But at the moment the odds don't look good. By the way, we picked 10 games that are all officially announced. We could add a ton of other games that we know are in development but are not yet ready to become public (Blizzard's next-gen MMO, the next Infinity Ward game, etc) but that's a much longer list that we will get to later.

Warren Spector tried (and failed) to buy the Deus Ex franchise

Warren Spector, despite the fact that he has (temporarily we hope) left the PC game space to work on some Wii game called Epic Mick-something-or-other, is still in love with the Deus Ex game franchise. How much? So much that, according to a new Variety article, he tried to buy the rights to the series from its current owners Eidos. Unfortunately for us, he failed.

Spector clearly wants to work on the franchise saying, "There were and still are 'Deus Ex' stories I would like to tell. That story is not done for me." Eidos' Montreal studios are currently working on Deus Ex 3 but they have been extremely quiet for the most part on their progress since the game was announced two years ago.

Expect lots of sequels from Eidos in the near future

With Eidos now a part of Square Enix, the UK-based publisher is apparently all about cranking out sequels to games that have worked well in the past. The GamingIndians.com web site has posted up a new chat with Ian Livingstone who was recently named "Life President" at Eidos where he revealed that lots of their franchises are getting new entries.

Of course you can expect a new Tomb Raider game which Livingstone states, " . . . will surprise a lot of people and reinvigorate the franchise." Yep, there's also a new Hitman game planned as well as a new Kane and Lynch entry; both will be handled by Io Interactive. Deus Ex 3 is already announced and when ask if a new Thefi game was in the works, Livingstone states, "Well, we did some research on all our franchises and the one that was most wanted was Thief. So you might want to draw your own conclusions, but I cannot confirm that." We suspect he will be able to on Monday.

More evidence of new Thief game announcement soon

Last month, Eidos Montreal's web site posted up a banner with word that their second major game project would be revealed "soon". Rumors began to fly that the second project (the first is the already announced Deus Ex 3) would a be new game in the Thief sneaker shooter series.

Now comes word via a scan of the new Edge print magazine on GameSpot's message boards that the reveal date has changed from "soon" to "May 11" which is a week from today. Furthermore the ad mentions online articles on GameSpy and GameSpot. All of them have the Thief series in common. Let's just say this: if the unannounced game doesn't have something to do with Thief a lot of folks are going to be upset.
