The game, titled The Last Standalone, will have all of the content contained in the Last Stand mode created by developer Relic. If players want to try out the rest of Retribution, they will be able to upgrade to the full version for a reduced price.

Dawn of War II Retribution multiplayer beta goes live [Update]

As promised, the multiplayer beta test for Relic's stand alone RTS expansion pack Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II Retribution has now gone live. People who have already pre-ordered the game via Steam can go ahead and download the multiplayer beta client now. People who have received a key to download the beta must follow the instructions on the game's community web site to get the beta client.

As we have previously reported the beta contain all six playable factions in the full version of the game (The Imperial Guard, Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Eldar, Tyranids, and Orks). On February 8, any person who has bought any Dawn of War game via Steam will gain access to the Retribution beta client. The beta is expected to run through February 24 with the game itself to be released on March 1.

Update: It looks like there have been some issues with distribution of the game's beta keys although some players have in fact made it into the beta test.

Dawn of War II Retribution to add new map and hero to Last Stand mode

Fans of the Last Stand survival-style mode that is a part of the sci-fi RTS game Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II will be happy to know that the upcoming stand alone expansion pack Dawn of War II Retribution will be adding some new content to that popular mode. PC Gamer is reporting that the mode from developer Relic and publisher THQ will add a new hero and a new map to the Last Stand mode.

The new hero is the Imperial Guard's Lord General which PC Gamer says "relies on summoned reinforcements and deployable turrets". The new level is unnamed but is described as a "volcanic-themed map" that will become a big challenge to even veteran Last Stand players. The new content will be included when Retribution is released on March 1.

Dawn of War II Retribution trailer pits Space Marines against Chaos

The newest Dawn of War II expansion (or should we say game, since it's separate from the original?) is shaping up to be a fantastic looking game, and nothing proves this more than this trailer. The Space Marines and the forces of Chaos have been beating on each other since time immemorial, and their fight still continues. Naturally, if you want to see some slick gameplay footage of chaos demons, space marine dreadnoughts, and copious amounts of gore, this is the premiere trailer to watch! Personally, we can't wait for the game, but it has nothing to do with any trailers.

Dawn of War 2: Retribution trailer consumes all life

Those Tyranids are nasty folk. They swarm onto a planet with all their claws and bio-engineered acid guns, dissolving everything so that the fleet can consume it and add it to the swarm. We're not too keen on becoming a mass of spikes and glistening, heaving, chitinous flesh, but in case it ever comes to that, this trailer certainly has us covered. Hot on the heels of the announcement that the Tyranids will be playable in the single-player campaign of Dawn of War 2: Retribution, this trailer doesn't really show anything new to veteran players of Dawn of War 2. But it sure does look nice, especially since it's all in-game footage!

Dawn of War 2: Retribution trailer stands for the living

Unlike what you would expect out of most elves, the Eldar in Warhammer 40k are hardcore, slit-your-throat badasses. This is made blatantly apparent in this Retribution trailer, which depicts the highly-advanced Eldar forces fighting against a tide of the dead and damned. The result is sheer carnage, and we wouldn't have it any other way. Showcased goodies include the Eldar Avatar of Khaine, a Great Unclean One (Greater Daemon of Nurgle), and hordes of both factions' basic troops. Those looking for the gory, visceral combat from the original game will be greatly please by this trailer, and it certainly ends with a bang.

Dawn of War II expansion trailer demands Retribution

Dawn of War II: Retribution, the newest expansion for the real-time strategy / role-playing game hybrid based in the Warhammer 40,000 universe is officially announced. The stand alone expansion will take place years after the conclusion of Chaos Rising, and it will feature a multi-race campaign for the first time in the Dawn of War 2 series, starting with the Orks. By playing through each race's story, players will find answers to many questions introduced in the Dawn of War series. The expansion is currently expected to release in March 2011.

The original Dawn of War II single player demo can be downloaded here.

"It is ten years since the events of Chaos Rising and Sub-Sector Aurelia has been in a constant state of warfare with the Imperium struggling to retain control. The apparent betrayal of the chapter by Gabriel Angelos and his Space Marines has shaken the Blood Ravens and now the Imperial forces are beset on all sides by hostile aliens. Retribution allows the player to select the race of their choosing in a battle to determine the very survival or destruction of the entire sector."

You can check out the full patch notes on the game's official message board. As you can see all of the game's various factions are affected and there are also a few bug fixes in the next patch. Review: Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising

Dawn of War II players must dive once more into the breach with the of Chaos Rising expansion. As the title indicates, one of the Space Marines' oldest foes is surfacing in the Aurelia Sector, and it's up to the Commander and his squads to cut off the head of corruption and Chaos before it spreads. Alternatively, players can give in to the corruption to boost their powers in new ways.
