Boot Disk: Dark Forces II

Sometimes you just need to sit down, slide a floppy into your A: drive, and enjoy gaming retro style. We know this all too well! That's why we have a list of the best and brightest from days long gone. These are some of our favorite games of all time, and we're sure that you'll love them as much as we do, if not more. Welcome to Boot Disk, and enjoy the retro ride!

The Star Wars games have had a long and rough history. For every Knights of the Old Republic, there's a Force Commander waiting in the wings to be made. The game that really cemented in the minds of the public that a Star Wars game could be done well, however, was the venerated and recently re-released Dark Forces II. While it was not the first or last entry in the Dark Forces franchise, it was certainly the best, and set the bar for all Star Wars games to come after. In fact, only one other Star Wars game surpasses it, and that is Knights of the Old Republic. So let's take a peek at an FPS classic.

Feature: Looking back at the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series

LucasArts' Twitter page nowhas more info on the upcoming digital download release of their next batch of classic PC games. As we reported earlier this week LucasArts will re-release the Jedi Knight series of first person action game via Steam (and also Direct2Drive). LucasArts' Twitter page said the actual release date will be on Wednesday, September 16.

And just how many of the games in the series will be released? According to LucasArts it will be ALL of them. That means we can expect to play four terrific stand alone games plus one expansion pack when the series is re-released next week. Just in case you are not familiar with the series, we have created a handy guide to help you out. We also take a look at some non-game related Dark Forces/Jedi Knight products.
