More info on Prince of Persia movie DVD/Blu-Ray release

A little while ago we reported that the DVD and Blu-Ray version of the movie Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time would be released on September 14. The Disney film, based on the long running game franchise, became the highest grossing game-to-film adaptation (in worldwide box office numbers) when it was released in theaters earlier this summer but was still considered a disappointment in both revenues and in reviews.

Perhaps that's why the DVD and Blu-Ray release of the movie will have just a few special features. IGN reports that the DVD version will just have a behind-the-scenes video while the stand alone Blu-Ray version will have that same video and one deleted scene. The three disk combo pack will have the most extras. In addition to the DVD and Blu-Ray disk the third disk will have a Digital Copy version of the movie to transfer to your PC or mobile device. In addition the combo pack will have one more extra feature for the Blu-Ray disk; "CineExplore: The Sands of Time" which will allow folks to unlock over 40 video segments while watching the movie.

I have to admit, I got a lot more than I bargained for when I sat down at the DVD Production panel on this second morning of the 3rd BlizzCon. After all, what can you do with a DVD Production panel anyway? Apparently, a whole lot.

Dead Space: Downfall clip uses strong medicine

This clip, titled "Hospital Bed," comes from Dead Space: Downfall, the animated straight to DVD/Blu-ray movie that ties into both the game and online comic book. The clip is rated R and contains explicit violence and language, so no streaming version was made available. Dead Space is scheduled to release this month on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Dead Space: Downfall is expected to release on DVD and Blu-ray on October 28th.

"An ancient religious artifact has been recovered by a deep-space mining ship, and for the crew of the USG Ishimura, life just became a living hell. Unearthed on a far-away planet during a mining operation, the relic is worshiped by some, even seen as proof of God. But when it's removed from its resting place and brought on the ship, the artifact unleashes a long-dormant alien race, one bent on ripping apart -- and taking over -- every human aboard. Their screams CAN be heard in space ... but only the slashers are listening."

Dead Space

Spore Galactic Edition evolves into online retail

A special edition of Spore has appeared at online retailers for pre-ordering. It's called the "Galactic Edition," and it comes with a making-of DVD, a DVD by National Geographic called "The Human Toolkit," a hardback book of concept art, a fold-out poster, and a "premium 100-page Galactic Handbook." We're not sure what the handbook will entail, but the rest sounds pretty cool.

The package comes in at $79.99, according to Gamestop, so it ain't cheap. It's set to ship on the 7th -- the same day as the standard edition. They certainly packed it full of extras to make it attractive, but do you really need all that stuff? We're sure that question will be met by blank stares from gamers everywhere.

Well, hey, we have to admit: the box design is pretty neat.
