Developer Criterion Games continues to update the PC port of its recent arcade racing game Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. Today the developer released the fifth patch for the game since it was first released last November.

As with the most recent patch this new update is mainly to deal with various game crash issues which players have encountered while playing the game. One game crash in particular, which occured on some systems when players were prompted to "Press Any Key", has been fixed in this new patch. Criterion is still taking bug reports for the PC version at its Bugzilla web page.

Developer Criterion Games has issued its second PC patch for its recent arcade racing game Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. The patch deals with a number of issues in the PC port including some controller configurations not saving along with CPU performance hits and more.

More importantly the free patch adds three new cars to the game; the Bentley Continental Supersports Convertible, the Lamborghini Murciélago LP 650-4 Roadster (shown above) and the Dodge Viper SRT10 Convertible Final Edition. These cars were added in a patch for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of the game just before Christmas. Players who download and install the patch won't be able to play online with their friends until they also download the patch.

EA staff get special version of Need For Speed Hot Pursuit with extra cars

While PC owners may not be able to get access to any of the future paid downloadable content for Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, perhaps they shouldn't be complaining that much. While we will be left out of the extra stuff that the console owners of the recent racing game will be provided with, most of us won't be getting any of the extra cars that are a part of the Electronic Arts employee version of the game either.

Yes, EA workers get a very special and exclusive version of the Criterion Games-developed title, as Kotaku reports. And not just some extra fancy packaging deal either. The EA employee version has seven exclusive cars that are not available to anyone else. So if you see the below cars while racing online, you will know that it's an EA staff member behind the wheel.

Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren 722 Edition
Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT S
Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Lamborghini Reventon
Bugati Veyron 16.4
Aston Martin DBS
Audi R8 5.2 FSI

Confirmed: No future DLC support for Need For Speed Hot Pursuit for PC

On Friday, Electronic Arts confirmed to Big Download that the PC port of the recent racing game Need for Speed Hot Pursuit would not be getting the Super Sports downloadable content pack. Now a member of the game's development team at Criterion Games has confirmed on the game's official message boards that the PC port won't be getting any DLC content at all.

According to what the developer stated in the post, " ... we have a limited amount of resources that makes it so that we are unable to deliver new content to all platforms." He did add that, " ... we do have more updates and content on the way for PC players" but no details were provided.

You may remember that 2K Games decided not to offer the final two DLC releases for BioShock 2 but after a massive outcry from fans, 2K Games reversed their decision and
"have reallocated resources to work on completing the project."

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit PC won't get newly announced DLC

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit was developed by Criterion Games for Xbox 360, PS3 and the PC. However it's looking like PC owners of the recent racing game may not get the chance to partake in the game's upcoming DLC content. Today publisher Electronic Arts announced that the first DLC pack, which will feature three new cars along with a number of new race events, will be release for the Xbox 360 and PS3 on December 21.

However Big Download has confirmed with an EA PR rep that the DLC pack won't be released for the PC port. So does that mean that PC owners of the game won't be getting any of the DLC releases? The same EA PR rep told us, "We don't have any more info about DLC at this time."

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit to get second PC patch soon

Last week developer Criterion Games issued its first PC patch for its recent racing game Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. Now comes word from the game's official web site that a second patch is in the works. As the patch note states, "With the second patch, we're getting into the really nitty-gritty, picky stuff that make the difference between a good game, and a great one."

Some of the bug fixes slated for the patch include one which random tree images start popping up on screen when a player hits the alt-tab button and another where controller set-ups for wheels and pads are not saving correctly. There's also a crash that happens with some AMD Radeon cards that will be fixed in an upcoming Radeon graphics driver update.

A little earlier than anticipated, Electronic Arts has just issued the first patch for the PC port of Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. The patch updates the arcade racing game from developer Criterion Games to version 1.0.1.0. The patch itself is pretty small at 19 MB.

As we reported earlier this week the patch contains a number of bug fixes including crashes for some users with quad-core gaming PC rigs. It also fixes graphical issues with showing rain in the game along with some other issues. It also adds support for the D-BOX motion control chair.

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit PC patch coming next week

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit's PC owners have been dealing with a few bugs since the driving game was released last week. Today the game's official message boards got an update from Matt Webster of developer Criterion Games with word that a PC patch is on its way and should be available to download sometime next week.

The patch will address several issues including crashes with some users with multi-core processors, with Webster stating, "Interestingly we're actually intrigued that the game works at all after our investigations with the problem actually manifesting itself in code that we shipped as part of Burnout Paradise." The patch will also fix missing rain, sun and corona effects in the game and will add support for the D-BOX motion control chair.

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit offers free use of Need For Speed World car

It makes sense for there to be some kind of crossover between Electronic Arts' many different Need For Speed games. The release this past week of the latest game in the driving series, Need For Speed Hot Pursuit is an example of that. If you bought the Criterion Games-developed title and if you use the same EA Online account for that game that you used in Need For Speed Shift., Criterion's last game Burnount Paradise and Need For Speed World, you can get 500 extra Bounty Points from each game to use in Need For Speed Hot Pursuit.

That's not all. Owners of Need For Speed Hot Pursuit can also get a free 3-day rental in Need For Speed World of a cop-themed Audi R8 (shown above). The deal also incldues some exclusive cop vinyls that can placed on any car in your Need For Speed World virtual garage.

Need For Speed Hot Pursuit trailers show off demos and ... something else

With Need For Speed Hot Pursuit due for release later this month, fans of the long running driving game franchise might have tried out the demo for the game that was released for the PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles. PC owners, for some reason, don't get a demo but a new video shows off what PC gamers are missing as it explains the two driving missions (one of which has to be unlocked by having a friend play the demo).

There's also another new trailer promoting the game that's ... well, odd. It's a live action trailer that shows two of the real life cars, one in a Seacrest County Police Department pain job, being driving by some UK-based music folks. If you are in the UK you might know who these guys are; we here in the US have no idea. You can check out that trailer after the jump.
