Brink PC dedicated server support detailed

Brink's developer Splash Damage have always said that its upcoming sci-fi first person shooter would include dedicated server support for the PC version. Today on the Bethblog.com site more info on the dedicated server features were revealed for the game.

The stand alone server files themselves will be available to download via Steam on their "Tools" menu before Brink is released on May 10. You will be able to run several instances of the server files on one PC and there will be a variety of options available for the server administrator to run multiplayer games including "team sizes, time limits and overtime, warm-up rules, friendly fire, voice chat, availability of Command Post buffs, rank restrictions, number of bots, and password."

New Fallout New Vegas PC patch released

As promised a couple of weeks ago, a new patch for the PC version of Fallout New Vegas has been released via Steam. The 1.3 patch for the post-apocalypse role playing game has a ton of balance changes for many of the game's weapons along with various "optimizations and stability improvements." As an example, the patch makes the SMGs, the Assault Carbine, and the LMG more accurate.

The patch should be a precursor to the next paid downloable mini-expansion for the Obsidian Entertainment-developed game. While publisher Bethesda Softworks has yet to confirm this, the title of the next DLC should be called Honest Hearts, according to a recently leaked trailer for the DLC.

Doom 4 will be a game classic Doom fans "will be happy with", says id Software

With developer id Software and publisher Bethesda Softworks keeps details about the next Doom game to themselves we will take any nugget of news about the next game in the first person shooter series we can get. Eurogamer reports that at a recent press event for id's next game Rage, id producer Matt Hooper said that the Doom development team is " ... doing something Doom fans will be happy with."

The game, which we have learned will likely not be titled Doom 4, " ... is distinct enough. It would be dangerous... We don't want to make a re-skinned Doom [with Rage] and then Doom 4 be a re-skinned Rage. That would be bad," said Hooper. Hopefully id will show off the next Doom game at this August's annual QuakeCon event.

New Elder Scrolls V Skyrim screenshots are pretty; PC game will "mostly" use DirectX 9

A new batch of screenshots from The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim have been released and the new visuals of the upcoming fantasy RPG sequel are certainly stunning. However, folks who plan to get the PC version of the game may be a tad disappointed to learn that developer Bethesda Game Studios won't be using much of DirectX 11's advanced graphical features.

While DirectX 11 will be over two years old by the time the game is released this November, the game's director Todd Howard told Eurogamer that it will be "mostly a DirectX 9 game in terms of how the shaders work." While DirectX 11 will be supported Howard says, "... there are things they get us for free, like performance gains. You're going to get performance gains out of it versus an older version." However he added, " ... the specifics DX11 does, like tessellation and all that kinda stuff, we aren't taking advantage of that right now. That doesn't mean we won't in the future. We aren't right now because we want to author it so it looks great." Meanwhile you can check out the new screenshots in our gallery.

New Rage trailer gives us an extended tour of Dead City

Remember when game trailers used to be just a minute or two in length? Now it seems the trend is for extra long trailers with lots of time to show off snippets of games. Today we get a 10 + minute trailer of Rage (the game, not the emotion) showing off a extended sequence from id Software's upcoming post apocalypse shooter.

The trailer show a section of the game called Dead City which you must explore while avoid being killed by the various mutants that inhabit the area. The trailer shows off id's next generation graphic engine, id tech 5, in style. Rage is still due for release on September 13.

Hunted: The Demon's Forge level editor details revealed via video

The upcoming fantasy co-op themed action-RPG Hunted The Demon's Forge was revealed to also include a level editor a few weeks ago. Now developer inXile Entertainment and publisher Bethesda Softworks has revealed more details about how the level editor works in a new video, courtesy of VG247.com.

The video, which you can check out after the jump, shows how easy it is to create a new dungeon crawl for the game (you can even hit a "random" button if you want to be surprised). More options for making your dungeon are based on how much gold you collect in the single player campaign. You can play with an AI buddy on any of the user-made levels or a human friend can join online. You can also upload new levels you make for anyone else to play with. The level editor will be included with Hunted The Demon's Forge when the game comes out on May 31.

Rage to get Anarchy Edition in US; multiplayer details revealed

Rage is the latest game that will be getting some kind of pre-order special edition. VG247.com reports that id Software's next first person shooter will be getting an Anarchy Edition when it is released to store on September 13. That edition of the game will include some special in-game items such as a double-barrel shotgun, a rat-rod buggy, crimson elite armor and something called "fists of Rage". Everyone who has already pre-ordered the game will be upgraded to the Anarchy Edition automatically. At the moment the edition is only scheduled for a US release.

Both regular and Anarchy Edition will also get a mission pack called Wasteland Sewers where you have to go underground to deal with mutants in a tunnel system.

More details of Rage's multiplayer modes were also revealed. One is called Legends of the Wasteland, a two-player co-op mode where you and a friend go on missions based on the game's single player levels. The other is called Rage Combat Rally, which will allow competitive and team based gameplay for up to six players.

Fallout New Vegas to get major new patch soon

It's been a while since the PC version of Fallout New Vegas has gotten a patch update but that will soon be changing. In a post on the RPG's official message boards, Bethesda Softworks' Jason Bergman wrote that a major new patch for the game is on its way.

What's in the patch? Bergman wrote, "First and foremost, optimizations and stability improvements. While there are bug fixes, our core focus was on improving stability and performance." There will also be some "weapon balance tweaks and other requested fixes." The PC version will likely get the patch first. Meanwhile the second big DLC for the game is now completed, according to Bergman and we should get the official release date soon as well.
