Battlefield Play4Free trailer blows apart enemy vehicles

Battlefield 2 is still one of the most influential games of all time. Its progression system was copied by Call of Duty 4, and the massive battles mixed with intense close-quarters infantry combat made it an instant classic. Play4Free returns to this after the smaller, more destruction-focused style of Bad Company 2, and this trailer gives us a good glimpse into what that means. The seamless blend of pre-rendered and in-game footage is a bit impressive, and the combat looks to be just as good as ever.

Starting today and through March 15, all players will receive a special in-game pack just for logging in that will include 77 bandages, 77 Battlefunds and 77 wrenches. Also, players who use 777 Battlefunds can get another pack that gives their characters a 7 day XP boost, a 7 day VP boost, a 7 day Sarge's stamina boost and 777 tonics.

As we have reported previously, EA has a second similar game, Battlefield Play4Free, that is currently in closed beta testing.

Battlefield 3 trailer fights in the city

This Battlefield 3 trailer is exciting for fans of the excellent military shooter series namely because it contains a fair amount of in-game footage. Granted, it's not multiplayer footage, and multiplayer is Battlefield's strong point, but it doesn't look bad either! It showcases the advance of a squad as they go to assist fellow soldiers at a potential chemical weapons facility, and the amount of detail put into the game at this early stage is quite impressive. Unfortunately, nothing of the new Frostbite 2 features are shown in this trailer, but we can always hope that DICE will show off more of their new engine in a future one.

Battlefield 3 reveals first glimpses of in-game footage

Battlefield 3 is slowly showing itself to the public. This morning the upcoming military shooter's official web site showed off a brief trailer that shows snips and quick shots of in-game footage from Digital Illusions' latest game. The footage shows a US Marine squad dealing with the enemy in Iraqi Kurdistan. We now have a local downloadable version of the trailer available to check out.

Publisher Electronic Arts has also confirmed the contents of the Battlefield 3 Limited Edition. As we reported earlier this month, people who pre-order the Limited Edition will get Frostbite Engine 2 versions of four maps from the previous game in the series Battlefield 2, along with other vehicles and weapons from that game.

Rumor: Battlefield 3 Limited Edition to include revamped Battlefield 2 content?

Battlefield 3 details are starting to leak out to the internet following the multiplayer shooter's official announcement on Friday. Computer and Video Games claims in a new story that a leaked ad for the game shows that the Limited Edition of the Digital Illusions-developed game will provide gamers from content from the series' last installment Battlefield 2.

Specifically, the Limited Edition is supposed to give gamers access to a special four level map pack containing revamped versions of classic Battlefield 2 maps but redone in Battlefield 3's new Frostbite 2 graphics engine. In addition vehicles and weapons from Battlefield 2 will show up in the Limited Edition of Battlefield 3 along with "unique rewards, new Achievements/Trophies and more." Folks who don't pre-order the Limited Edition version of the game will apparently still be able to access its extra via paid DLC sometime after the game is released.

Battlefield 3 to be cover story for next Game Informer print mag

The first details on Battlefield 3 should be revealed very, very soon. Game Informer's web site has just revealed that its next print magazine issue, due in newsstands later this month, will feature a cover story on Digital Illusions' next game in the military shooter franchise.

Details are still scarce but the web site announcing the cover article states that the game will use the next version of DICE's in-house Frostbite Engine which will have new features like "deferred rendering, real-time radiosity, a new animation system borrowed from the EA Sports label, and an exponential leap in destructibility." As we reported earlier today DICE made the design to cancel the PC port of the long awaited Battlefield 1943 to concentrate its resources on Battlefield 3.

Bad Company 2 DLC trailer shows off new battlefields

The folks at DICE may be hard at work on the Medal of Honor multiplayer, but that doesn't mean they are neglecting their beloved Battlefield franchise. While an expansion is in the works, DICE is still making small map packs for the average user, with the newest being VIP Map Pack 6. It's a free update to anyone that owns Bad Company 2, and it doesn't really add any new maps. Rather, it extends Panama Canal and Laguna Presa to allow Squad Deathmatch and Squad Rush, respectively. The map pack is available now for free, and the above trailer showcases some of the action you can find playing new game modes on old maps.
