Today was a tad slow on the news front thanks to the "Easter Monday" holiday celebrated in Europe and even parts of the US (unofficially). Things should be back to normal tomorrow.

• Steam has new automatic updates for Dinner Date, Atom Zombie Smasher and the Steam client itself.
• Film director James Cameron says games will lead the 3D charge into the home.
• Is Valve done with making single player only games after Portal 2's release?
• Marvel Comics will be revealing the first concrete info on its Marvel Universe MMO on Thursday, including the name of the game's writer.

This small patch for Atom Zombie Smasher updates the game to v1.71, fixing a number for bugs for the PC, Mac and Linux releases of the game. A full list of changes can be found after the jump.

Today was Pi Day. How did you celebrate; with eating pie or by doing deep math equations?

• Steam has now added Atom Zombie Smasher to its lineup with a 10 percent discount until March 21.
• Bioware seems to be hinting at the next Mass Effect 2 DLC on its Facebook page.

• EA Games head man Frank Gibeau apparently loves Fox News and its coverage of Bulletstorm; just not the way that you might think at first.

Atom Zombie Smasher toes a very careful line. On one hand, it is a supremely accessible and entertaining game. On the other, it's totally surreal and devoid of the context most people would associate with zombies. The result is a bizarre, hilarious, fun strategy game that manages to keep from being tied to a single genre. It's not surprising given the developer's background in blocky, colorful, surreal games. It's the strongest indie release this year so far, however, and has the potential to keep its position at the top until 2012.

Funnily enough, there's no atom smashing.

This is the playable demo for Atom Zombie Smasher, a unique strategy game developed by Blendo Games. In it, players must save survivors from the 1961 zombie apocalypse by assembling an army of mercenaries and firing nuclear missiles from orbit to destroy the oncoming horde. The demo is available for Windows, Mac and Linux. System requirements are shown after the jump.

Before you say anything, we know: zombies. We are getting sick of them popping up in new games just like you are. But this one looks like it will actually be different. For one thing Atom Zombie Smasher is being made by Blendo Games, the same indie team that made the cool space-based strategy-adventure game Flotilla. For another this top down arcade game looks like it will be a lot of fun.

The nominal setting for Atom Zombie Smasher is 1961 at the height of the Cold War. You are in charge of an orbital space station that has lots of weapons (didn't know we had such a thing in 1961 but oh well). You order teams of mercs to rescue civilians from the ground while also taking out zombies, including the use of tactical nukes that you fly into the ground. Look for three player co-op modes as well. There's no release date or pricing yet for the game but its due out for the PC, Mac and Linus. You can check out a gameplay trailer after the jump
